After a grueling bus ride we were greeted by the owner Tom - you must be Sarah - yes yes we were. He´d reserved a room for us after a hasty email sent that morning and we were warmly welcomed to our little paradise in Merida. Two beers on arrival and a complimentary drink cart - just what´s needed after... more

I spent six weeks in Mexico recently, three of them in Merida where I mostly stayed at Luz en Yucatan. It was fabulous and just what I needed after a very stressful year of teaching!! Tom and Donner know how to pamper their guests with all the right touches. Helpful, entertaining staff, interesting guests, fun times! Now that I'll be... more

the host was a great fun guy. he took time to talk to all the guests. there was a hospitality tequila cart in the main hall way. the pool is private and beautiful. the rooms (we have stayed in several of them), are all unique and really cool. yes, a/c , too. the place is located really close to the... more

Just returned from a two-week trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, and staying at Luz for two nights was one of our favorite spots! Great location in the city of Merida, charming atmosphere, and friendly service. Lupita showed us the room when we arrived after a long bus ride from Chiquila. Our spacious room had a fridge, coffee and filters, big... more

I highly recommend Luz en Yucatan. I went to Mexico last week to have my wedding ceremony. My family came from Ukraine, 6 people. I contacted Tom who is a co-owner, booked two rooms and asked him to look after my family who don't speak any English or Spanish, until I got there the next day to pick them up.... more

What a jewel. After a rather stupid all night flight from Oakland, CA to Merida we were taken to Luz for our 5 day stay in Merida. It was hot, we were tired, and everyone was oh so nice. The place is owned by 2 Americans, one of whom is there a lot (Tom Williams) and staffed during the day... more

If you love a hotel with local character, lots of ambiance , a great location and a terrific price then book the LUZ . We stayed here twice during our visit to Merida and will stay again. This is a spanish colonial style hotel with a walled front and a central courtyard. The pool is fantastic during the heat of... more

The first thing I encountered upon entering Luz en Yucatan was a strong scent of male cat spray that lasted thru the first two entrance rooms (one of which walks you past a glass wall overlooking what must be a patio, but looks more like a disorganized storage area with a few haphazard plants. The second room when entering (where... more

We spent 10 days in the Yucatan, poking around ruins, and our 2.5 days in Merida were the best. Not only because Merida is not chock full of tourists (it felt like a genuine Mexican city full of regular folk), but also because this hotel was so excellent. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, the poolside area was immensely... more

Luz en Yucatan is truly a delight. We did a mini tour of the Yucatan Peninsula and had our best night's sleep at Luz. The beds were scrumptious, our huge room was modern with gorgeous bath fixtures, an awesome shower, all in a colonial setting and very quiet. Two cold beers in the fridge after a drive into town from... more
