The hotel is very nice, beautiful entrance with plants and sun coming from the top. Service is good. We had a nice and very luminous room. Location is perfect on main street calle 60. I would not say it's a 5 star, it is not perfect inside, some things are very old. Anyway recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The colonial design of the hotel is beautiful! We stayed on the top floor which also had rocking chairs that over looked the city. This was a great spot to enjoy an afternoon tropical storm. The swimming pool in the back and patio area was a great place to relax and unwind after a... More

We stayed in one of the suites in the front of the hotel. We had a private stairway and seating area overlooking the awesome open courtyard below. The pool was the best kept secret as we would explore the downtown area by foot in the mornings. At the heat of the day we would return to the highly walled, lushly... More

Stayed here for two nights in two rooms with my teenage daughters. We came to see the sights of Merida and this was ample time for us bearing in mind the extreme heat at this time of year. The location is great. Its very easy to walk to the city shops and squares from here. If you were further out... More

Ok, hotel, they charge me leaving a night early, A/C ok, a bit colder would help... Close to downtown, but no breakfast was included and price was not to good, I would say more for the service received..

Casa de Balam was my end destination after flying in from Cancun. My basic strategy is to take advantage of cheap resort flights, grab a rental car, and get the @#$# out of the tourist section. Driving from Playa Carmen, we stayed overnight in Valladolid, catching the first Thursday night of Carnival, which was glorious- it was kid's night. Next... More

Nice stay at Casa del Balam. Not a luxury property, but hard to beat in terms of location and value (quality/price). Less than a 5 minute walk to the Grand Plaza in one direction and Santa Lucia in the other. Right across from some beautiful colonial buildings (a theater and the administrative offices for the Yucatan University). The room was... More

In a 1950s style with lots of original features, this was a nice hotel – not what you’d call upmarket but fairly pleasant with a nice lobby area, where I spent a lot of time sitting as the wifi signal wouldn’t work for me at all in our room, though my boyfriend could get onto it there for some reason.... Excellent location two blocks from main plaza in Merida. Old structure with a more modern building on the side. Very charming with a central patio and a beautiful garden and pool. Price is right for the type of hotel. Rooms were ample and with a good AC, bathroom was working well and clean. Did not use their room service or... More

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2015

We stayed here for 5 nights. Firstly, the building is stunning with an open central courtyard filled with palm trees centred on a fountain; a really nice place to relax. It is located in the centre of Merida, literally 2 minutes walk from the main square and so is surrounded by a large choice of restaurants but noise was never... More
