Definitely, you couldn't ask for a better location. The outside of the hotel is lovely, as are the lobby and breakfast areas. The hotel offers very few amenities -- no extra pillows or blankets -- and the rooms are very basic. However, for the price you couldn't do better. more

We were very pleasantly surprised to find this little gem of a small hotel on a very cute downtown square right near the main downtown square. Rooms were very roomy, good A/C clean neat and great value. Especially surprised that their wireless internet worked very well in the room. Merida is a fantastic colonial town if you like architecture. Many... more

Our one night stay at the Hotel Caribe was too long for us. The hotel looks promising from the outside - right on the Plaza Hidalgo, wrought iron balconies, restaurant, free Internet PC - but our room on the second floor was sorely in need of basic upkeep. The mattress was thin and lumpy, bathroom was dark and dingy, and... more

This is a unique, beautiful (colonial) hotel, with good service and an excellent, old-town location. Expectedly, for a colonial -built building, the rooms are small and a bit stuffy; the facilities are dated but functioned well. The front door exits onto Hildago Square, a location of many local events; the main, town plaza is one block away. Nice. Don't, however,... more

Stayed at the Caribe for 2 nights at the end of November 2008. Since it was low season, we were able to negotiate the price of the room if paying cash upfront. We paid 632 pesos a night for a small room off the main coutyard on the 3rd floor. The room had a double bed, small tv, air con... more

Very nice location in downtown Merida even we found the town a little boring. Room was worn down and toilet had flushing problems. And we had the superior room. Lock on the room door could be opened with any spoon og metal object as it was allready broken into and not yet fixed. The room was cheap and what we... more

Good location nice ambiance. Rooms are tired, renovation has been shabby. Has no elevator but we were lucky to get a room downstairs. Very rough sandy wrought iron furniture, poor bathroom, limping light fixtures. Noisy airconditioner. One dead cockroach. Dark closet. (Room 10) more

Overall we were very happy with Hotel Caribe. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and actually charming. The building of itself has a very rich history. The location is perfect, right in the back from Calle 60, in the Park Hidalgo. The little retaurant is nice and the food is wonderful. Best-Wishes, and Good Travels, Jethrot1 more

The staff is very nice and speak English, its close to every thing, the restaurant is perfect for afternoon snack or breakfast or lunch. We own a home on the coast in Mexico and come... more

The Caribe is a beautiful hotel in a 17th century Monastery situated on Park Hidalgo in Merida, just one block from the central square. Our room was on the second floor, which is an open veranda overlooking a lovely courtyard. The room was small with only a double bed (and an extra twin size bed), but was comfortable and clean... more
