The staff we encountered at the hostel more attentive than at any other hostel I have stayed. We arrived early in the morning and were invited to breakfast and to leave our stuff in a locked luggage closet. When our room wasn't ready at 12pm they moved us to an open room which included its own bathroom for no extra... More

Arriving to Merida with the intention to stay for 2 nights ended with staying for 4 nights. The owner of the Hostal offers tours to sights in the area. His insight and passion really makes it an incredible adventure. The rooms (private as well as dormitory) are clean and have ceiling fans. The location is good and very central -... More

We stayed in Zocalo Hostel for 4 nights and we were very disappointed with the service and staff - especially one of the owners/ partners - Mr Oscar - who was arogant and not helpful at all. We booked a private room, but when we arrived (late in the night) there was no reservation for us and we where offered... More

We checked into the hostel and unfortunately had to leave a few hours later due to a change in plan. We had already paid for 2 nights and weren't expecting any money back however the boy behind the desk (Oscar I think) was extremely helpful and went to speak to the owner and gave us back the cost of 1... I checked out Zucalo after reading here that another popular Merida hostel wouldn't allow people over 30 In the dorms. This place was a find...the most comfortable hostel bed I have ever slept in, lots of room, this really relaxed ambiance that happens when people of all ages and cultures come together. Breakfast was stellar. They even have a tea... More

I felt like my house very comfortable, very quiet and very comfortable. They have treated me very kindly. Breakfast is the most complete that I was fortunate to enjoy, abundant and diverse. Very good kitchen and all the space to share, is a historic building (a very large colonial mansion) and the space is very fresh, clean and colorful. Highly... More

The building is huge and friendly right in the heart of the city! They have a main floor where the breakfast and the common area is located, some of the dorm and private rooms and the sper clean bathrooms with hotwater takes place at the end of the corridor in this beautiful building. You can also go to the rooftop... More

Well, simply put, it was horrlble. The room was dark and gloomy and absolutely dirty! The sheets were... undescribable. We had to ask for some towels and when we did so, we finally came across what in so many other reviews I had always only heard of: horrible staff. The guy at the reception was only interested in his smartphone... More

During 3 weeks I was in a Female dorm (8 beds-no bunk, comfy beds even with drawers), spacious room. Unbeatable location right in the center (cathedral square !) where most of the entertainments take place. Old colonial fresh painted building, very quiet, big common spaces, very high ceilings, very clean all day long, soap and toilet paper never missing. Huge... More

I think I ate more fruit in one breakfast at hostal zocalo than i had in the previous week. Like other reviewers have said, its clean, a great location on the main plaza, and its a beautiful old building. The price of a private double room was the same as two dorm beds, so keep that in mind. Stay here!
