I was very nervous about booking a stay here after reading thru previous reviews. It sure sounded like a hit or miss experience. Our stay on the other hand was wonderful. For full disclosure purposes though, let me first say that my wife and I lived in Costa Rica for 9 years, running our own small ecolodge, so we are... more

We were debating whether to spend the night at Chichen Itza, or join a tour group for a day trip. I thought it would be more useful to actually spend the night there. We drove from Cancun, stopped over for lunch in Valladolid, and then checked into Mayaland around 4ish. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It's right outside the archaelogical... more

We went to the Mayaland for one night as part of the Gray line overnight tour. We had been to Chichen Itza once before and wanted a bit more time this trip. We booked online in November so I had concerns about whether it would all come together but all was good. We met the bus at the entrance of... more

Hotel is closest to the ruins. Other than that the hotel offers lousy service, tired food, musty rooms, etc. Rooms are overpriced and hotel is often overrun with tour buses and large groups. Check-in and check-out can be a hassle. Hacienda and the Club Med Villas may be better alternatives. We left Mayaland and stayed at the Villas (a suite... more

We stayed at the Mayaland for only one night so we could easily see the light show then get to Chichen Itza early in the morning. The hotel is comfortable, clean, good sized rooms, nice pool, and you certainly can't beat the location. On the down side the buffet is poor, prices seem to be some guarded secret, the staff... more

We did an overnight stay here via Grayline Tours. The hotel is older but is well tended and very unique in its lush, jungle setting. Rooms in the main hotel building were very clean, had air cond and small balconies. The bathroom was ample with a giant, deep tub-shower combo. No phones in the room but our cells did work via... more

This is a very nice property. After reading reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this jungle resort. We were upgraded to a Royal bungalow with two beds (each covered in mosquito netting), which was very nice room and shared its own large, refreshing pool with just a few other bungalow guests. We were there for New Year's... more

Great location next to ruins and beautiful grounds. But general atmosphic somewhat sterile, and service was a sorry excuse for an upscale hotel (45 minutes wait to get tortilla chips at the bar? laundry came back in a lump in a garbage bag? absolutely no kid-friendly food on Christmas Eve and Christmas day?). Next time will stay at Hacienda Chicen,... more

We went to Chitchen Itza the exact weekend it was the equinox, so we though the resort would be full, but no, probably because september is a low season and Chitchen Itza is sooo much deep in the jungle. The room was ok, a bit humid and the furniture was a bit old, but it's not a big deal. It... more

We were very disturbed to find a monkey housed alone in a wire cage tucked under the main building. There was no blanket or any other comfort item in the cage with him. The poor creature was pacing back and forth- a sign of stress and despair in animals. Monkeys are very social animals and it is extremely cruel to... more
