Hotel Imperial, in the Zocalo of Veracruz is a gem of architecture and history! I actually stood in the same balcony where Emperor Maximilian and Marie Charlotte glanced at the plaza! Unfortunately, it needs major attention by its owners/management. Because of this: rates are super-affordable. This hotel is for history buffs. Unique elevator. Location: unbeatable! There is no gym and... more

This hotel has clearly seen better days. Ok, the location is great as you are on the zocalo, the lobby is beautiful and the art-decò lift is enchanting, you feel to be brought back in 1800! But the staff, although friendly and polite, is a little confused on reservations (took five minutes to find ours) and prices. Our room, we... more

Firstly, my reservation from an online service was nowhere to be found at the hotel on this holiday weekend. Luckily (I guess) they had a room. Upon a quick scan of the room, I found it in dingy, but acceptable order. When I checked the bathroom, I found no seat on the commode! When I brought this to their attention,... more

I went to this hotel after being shown rooms in the neighbouring Hotel Colonial: they showed me a "cheaper" back room: dark, smelly and without a window - dreadful, and they wanted about $40 for that (the front rooms had light, for about 550 pesos, but prices change in line with hotel "policies"). This place also has back rooms and... more

Stayed at the Imperial 5 nights. Hotel is old and dark. Needs major investment to restore it to grandeur. Air conditioner got progressively louder then became hot air pump only. Hot water was not available for the shower. Towels hard and sparingly available. Complained to Manager on Day 3 as I had packed for early check-out. He gave me a... more

We have stayed there twice, the first time we stayed there was in 1999, it was wonderful, very clean room, comfortable, clean carpet. In 2003 the place was a dive, the room stank, the carpet was filthy, and the pool was gross. It is in an excellent location, cloce to the malecon, and in los portales. There are much nicer... more

This hotel is marginal at best. In sweltering Veracruz the room air conditioning barely functioned. Hotel is run down; everything seems being redone, but in an unprofessional manner. Shabby. Staff helpful, but not professional. Do yourself a BIG favor and go next door to the Colonial for the same price. more

Just browsing before second trip to Mexico this year and noticed absence of a review. We stayed a few days off season in June 2004 and had a large comfortable, well equiped 2 bed room, at the then special rate of MEX 450. There is a pool and a gym. The hotel is ideally located right on the Zocalo where... more
