The check in process was more difficult than it needed to be. First the receptionist booked us for the wrong night. No biggie, because we thought he cleared it up, then the next morning when we showed up with our stuff, they had two people booked in our beds and the staff were confused as to who we were?! It took a while to sort out. Luckily I had requested a receipt the night before, otherwise who knows? Then during check in process the little dog that's on the property bit me when he came up to me and I tried to pet him. One of the ladies (I think she was the owner) helped prep my wound and put peroxide and antibiotic cream on it, but they acted like it was normal and okay for the dog to bite guests! Not cool! I'm still wondering if I might have rabies! The owner assured me the dog doesn't have rabies... but being bitten on my vacation at a hostel wasn't part of my travel plans... why is a dog that bites people allowed to roam around on the premises? After going through other reviews on here I see that I'm not the first person this dog has bitten! This is not acceptable at all! The people at this hostel were really weird, not the hostels fault obviously, but everyone was either very pretentious and arrogant or angry for no reason, continously slamming the lockers, throwing their stuff around, banging on stuff, like they were having a bad night or something. We'd say hola or hello and they wouldn't respond. The guy my wife and I had to share a dorm with was super weird and creepy, luckily the night staff worker agreed to change our dorm room, and we ended up with a dorm all to ourselves! Nice. Also the guests at this place were some of the nastiest and dirtiest I've ever encountered in all my years of traveling, they had no respect for leaving the bathrooms clean! They didn't believe in flushing the toilets, they left soiled toilet paper pieces all over the stalls, someone shaved their beard and left the hairs all over the sink, disgusting! The location can't be beat, right near the Zocalo, and the property is big and clean. The dorm beds were spacious and very comfortable. Accordingly there's a shared kitchen and laundry service but we didn't use either, as we were there only one night. Had my wife and I not been given a private dorm room the night we stayed here I would find it hard to recommend this place, mainly because of the dirty guests and the biting dog, at least the price was right, but I think there are much better options in Oaxaca.

The good thing about this place is that it accepts pets though it is not pet friendly. The personnel are not friendly but I had a nice time because I was with my newly rescued puppy and I did not have to hide him which in most places in Mexico you do most places do not accept pets so be happy about the fact that this place does. There was a hammock chair I absolutely loved I relaxed in it for more than an hour. The bed was comfortable enough and the shower was clean enough but the cleaning woman did not help me clean up an accident my puppy had so it is not really pet friendly. After i cleaned up the mess she did not offer to mop in the room to get the smell completely out but she was more than willing to butt in when the manager was helping me connect my phone to the internet, she entered my room and I asked her if I could help her and so she finally got the hint and left. I found her to be intrusive. Thew bottom line is it doesn't matter how unfriendly the staff is if you go with your dog.:) So enjoy the stay with your little pup and ignore the bad vibes. I have to give it four stars because it accepts dogs and almost no hostels do in Oaxaca and in Mexico in general and the place itself was open and airy so it didn't have really bad energy itself only the staff.

This place has a great location, two blocks from the Zocalo and walking distance to most other attractions in Oaxaca. The accommodations are more than adequate- single rooms or dorms. The folks running the place are extremely helpful.

It was ok, the staff were for the most part really nice. The walls are super thin so we could hear the neighbours all night one night. Also people came back at stupid hours in the morning and switched lights on and made noise, so it was uncomfortable for myself one night.

I came here because it was the only hostel with a bed according to my online searching, because it was a holiday week in Mexico. I can see why it wasn't booked. Not much of an atmosphere with a confusing check-in process. I got a whole dorm room to myself which was cool, but there was only one plug for the entire room and no way to have the fan going with the lights off so I had to unscrew the lightbulb! Lockers were provided but most were broken. Bathrooms are gross because there is one drain in the middle of the room, so when anyone showers the whole floor is wet. Watch out! It was very much of a backpacker party atmosphere when I was there, which is cool if you're not trying to sleep, but there's not too much concern from anyone. Wifi is spotty, but they have it. Breakfast was homemade Mexican food and delicious! Also, a bizarre tv room which I never saw any one use....I wish they had free drinking water...My suggestion would be to go next door to Oaxaca Magic! Or any number of cooler hostels in the area.

The bathrooms were bad - the toilets were in a really foul state and the doors (and shower doors) were small saloon doors so barely covered you - no privacy. Breakfast was reasonable. Staff took ages to check us in and then overcharged us by rounding up too high after adding on tax. We pointed this out but they didn't acknowledge it. The dorm was basic, it had good sized lockers but only one plug socket for the whole room and nasty plastic sheets on the bed. We left after one night.

Friendly talkative staff. Offering laundryservice and breakfast. But it's a hostel meaning it's mostly dormitories with bunkbeds. But it's central and you can bring your pet and people do and it gives a very cozy and friendly atmosphere.
