The flower filled roof terrace overlooking the city is a great place for breakfast and to relax. We stayed in two different rooms here. Whilst the rooms are fairly small, they are thoughtfully decorated with interesting artworks, and talavera tiling in the bathrooms. We stayed in rooms 5 and 10, and though a bit darker would recommend the downstairs rooms... More

Hi Shikiko Jarrod, Thanks for staying with us and for writing the review. We appreciate that you noticed the details like tile and artwork. The hotel has a mix of rooms and we hope to meet the mix of preferences among our guests. With just ten rooms we have rooms upstairs/downstairs; lighter/darker; and on the front with big sliding glass... More

WE had such a lovely time at Hotel Azucenas that we didn't want to leave. The building is beautiful and beautifully kept, with rooms around a lovely plant-filled courtyard and a gorgeous rood terrace with views over the city. The terrace felt like wonderful a place to relax - full of flowers and with free tea and coffee. The location... More

Hi Hannah D, Thank YOU very much!!! It's fun to help people discover the coolest things about Oaxaca and it's also nice to hear that we've done a good job. The hotel staff is enthusiastic about Oaxacan culture and we are also well-connected to resources, services and people in the area. We work hard to make the hotel what it... More

very nice place, excellent staff, great location, wonderful breakfast with comfortable terrace. We were the only couple there one night. cons: lots of cleaning going on late into the night - which was a disturbance since the doors had to be opened for some ventilation. Huge booms from fireworks? or cars - late into the night and early in the... More

I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem on a hill. Even though the rooms are small, you have access to a wonderful patio 24/7 that overlooks the Oaxaca Valley. With the fan and floor to ceiling windows on the rooms facing the street, the heat was bearable for me. The central courtyard and patio make this hotel a cut... More

Great roof top to have breakfast and generally relax, good location and very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are getting a bit tired though and are relatively small (and can be very hot and stuffy even with the fan supplied) - beds etc. could do with an update. A decent option, just nothing outstanding.

Hola Matt D – we’re glad you visited, and wrote… Thanks for your compliments on our great roof top terrace, breakfasts, location and incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Our rooms?? We started with an absolutely charming traditional home in an old neighborhood of the city…exterior windows only on the street side…and limited space for windows facing the inner courtyard. We... We spent 4 nights at Hotel Azucena and had a very good stay. The hotel is just 8-10 minutes walk (very pleasant walk) from the Zocalo. It was the low season so the place was quiet. I believe the owners were away but staff were helpful and very friendly. The rooms are nice (we went for a cheap one without... More

If you are looking for a moderately-priced small hotel with warm and friendly service, clean and comfortable accommodations, this is it. The room was simply but tastefully decorated and appointed. The expanded continental breakfasts were delicious, varied and reasonably priced. The staff did everything they could to make our stay pleasant, including providing excellent restaurant and tour recommendations. The neighborhood... More

A small welcoming hotel, within easy walking distance of the zocalo. There with a lovely rooftop terrace/ garden where you can eat breakfast while enjoying views of the surrounding city and hills. The rooms are small but comfortable and most importantly quiet.

We really liked this hotel. We stayed on the top floor in room 10, and it was indeed a great choice. I didn't really see much of the other rooms, other than peeks, I don't know if I would stay there unless I had that top floor room however, since they seemed small and dark to me....however, the staff were... Hola kbing53 and thanks for writing! Everybody loves Room 10…but we ALSO have guests who deliberately request other favourite rooms…and for stays of up to a month. Some rooms have skylights; others have large windows onto the courtyard… And EVERYBODY LOVES the rooftop terrace garden. We look forward to seeing you again – AND we’ll be glad to hold Room... More

Everything about this little hotel is great, we could have stayed for a lot longer than we did. It's perfectly situated, just 5 minutes from the centre, so you're right in the heart of the place but enough of a step away from the centre to get some peace. It's also just up on the brow of a hill, so... More
