I stayed a two different hotels during my trip to Oaxaca. Hotel Principal was my favorite. They have a very helpful staff. I only speak a little Spanish and I had no trouble communicating. I stayed in a room with a balcony facing 5 de Mayo Street. I loved hearing the sounds from the street and watching people walk by.... More

I'd forgotten 'til I started to review the Principal that I'd stayed here twice -- once, long ago, when I had a convention in Oaxaca, and more recently when introducing a young relative to Mexico City, Oaxaca, Puebla and environs. Both times it provided a more comfortable base than I'd expected for the price, and the staff was particularly helpful... More

We found this quite hotel almost perfect. It is in a great location nearby the main plazas and churches. We loved the old Spanish feel and the open courtyard. The price was reasonable. The rooms were clean. The staff was fanastic. The only down sides were that the street could a bit noisy at night and some of that sound... More

The hotel is perfectly located and a decent value-for-money option if you get one of the upstairs rooms. We spent three nights there, the first in a dark downstairs room (no 2) in urgent need of a makeover (leaking toilet, corroded fittings, missing tiles). We then got an upstairs room with a balcony/window facing the street, which was nicer, airier... More

Great location three blocks north of the zocalo and three from Santo Domingo church. On a quiet street it is economically priced and clean, from $25 American for a single and $42 for a double. (325 pesos & 550) It is an older building with comfortable rooms. I recommend one of the three balcony rooms, that face the street. I... More

This is a perfect location as a base to explore Oaxaca. The staff was pretty helpful and nice. It is difficult to say the rooms are old or it's only a stylization. We love this atmosphere, fits to the building. Everywhere is clean and the rooms are cool to escape the strong sun of oaxaca. I would definately stay there... More

Just fwo blocks from Zocalo square this hotel is magnificently located. The wi-fi is not very good unles you step outside to the courtyard. Rooms are decent and prices are 595.00 pesos for two adults. Very nice balcony views from just two available roooms but on the downside the traffic wakes you up kind of early. The don't accept any... My family of 7, all adults, stayed here in 1997 and found it perfect. I came back in 2012 and was saddened to see that it needs a lot of repair. The staff are both extremely nice and inconsistently able or willing to speak English . I could not get internet access anywhere in the hotel. The rooms are huge,... More

I stayed here for almost three weeks in July, 2012. The hotel is basic, clean, and secure, with a medium comfort level. Bathroom worked well. I bought a comforter to soften the bed. The friendly room maid and front desk staff were exceptionally helpful, esp when I needed a wake-up and a cab at 4 am. The owner is frequently... More

A no frills place that is quiet, clean and safe, albeit a bit worn around the edges. I stayed in a hostel with a shared bath on a busy street and it was not apreciable less than this hotel. There's so much to do and so many nice places to hang out in Oaxaca that a glitzy hotel with all... More
