I stayed at the Casa with a group of 7 of my Pilates students. From the moment I walked in to the foyer, I knew this place was special: I was surrounded by art and and air of mystique behind the purple door. The courtyard and gardens are unimaginably sublime: lush and colorful with artistic embellishments of sculpture, paintings, and... More

I just came back today from a relatively short trip to Oaxaca. Staying at Casa Colonial had enormous impact on my tour. It's a lovely, friendly refuge, where you can choose to spend time just relaxing in the garden and readfing (one of your own books or from a great selection in the library) and the service was just wonderful.... Casa Colonial is a sweet... boutique hotel? B&B? Well, it is really a class all on its own. The rooms all face a central courtyard garden, which is lovely. I especially loved the birds. There is a fantastic breakfast and you can sign up to get dinner too, which is nice if you've been out all day. The rooms vary... More

I stayed here during a weeklong cooking class and found myself feeling very at home. I would give the Casa a 5 rating except for a couple of things. First being location. It is walkable to most of central Oaxaca but there is some distance involved so if you find it hard to go long distances on uneven sidewalks you... More

Once again I had a dream vacation at Casa Colonial! I love every aspect of the Casa. I love, love the garden and the parrot. I love the chirping birds. I love the staff. I love the Oaxacan textiles and rugs in all the rooms. I love the breakfasts. The walk into town is good exercise and taxi's cost about... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Casa Colonial. The staff is wonderful, the grounds are beautiful, and the location is great. A short walk to the zocalo but far enough that it is quiet and peaceful. If you are not careful - you might spend your day just hanging around the Casa instead of wondering the town or the... More

The same wonderful feeling washes over me every time I visit Oaxaca and enter the door to the Casa Colonial. Over the last 20 years I've stayed at the Casa on 10 different occasions, and have never, not once, been anything other than amazed at what an incredibly lovely place it is--how beautiful and well-maintained all the gardens are, how... Things are not all rosy at Casa Colonial. It definitely has some positive points but there are also some things that can affect your enjoyment when staying there. Positive - lovely staff, especially the women who prepare the breakfast and clean the rooms - good breakfast - lovely upper garden area - large living room with library Negative - very... More

Love, love, love 'The Casa'! Love the courtyard, love the walkways, love the staff, and love every funky room! The breakfasts are delicious (thank you, Soledad!) and the afternoon margaritas knock us out (thank you, Gloria!) There isn't anything you could ask for that Amado, the manager, can't graciously provide in the blink of an eye -- he is a... More

Just recently returned from 12 days at the Casa Colonial. While the grounds are mainly quite lovely they are not well maintained at the far end of the single rooms. Breakfasts were great. Amado, the manager, was very helpful with advice and arrangements. I do warn visitors who book a room with a "shared" bathroom. There are actually 3 rooms... More
