Quinta Real is a very (the most?) expensive hotel in Oaxaca. It has a few things going for it: a beautiful historic convent setting, a great location for exploring wonderful downtown Oaxaca (one of Mexico's greatest cities) and very obliging staff. However, it also has numerous drawbacks. That same historic convent makes for very dark, airless and small rooms (with... More

You can always count on Quinta Real hotels to be high class and often housed in very interesting installations as is this one in Oaxaca . It was a 16th century convent that through the years has gone through many changes . We were there just one night . Our room was very comfortable , smallish but with everything one... More

This is a genuine character hotel - a recycled 16th century Dominican convent that has also served duty as a town hall, prison, school and cinema before being transformed into a hotel - all in the heart of Oaxaca. The good: location and character in almost equal measure. The standard guest rooms are comfortable with the faux-period furnishings, stucco-clad metre-thick... More

This was our second time at hotel. It has so much history that it almost seems like the walls could talk. Good buffet breakfast but a little expensive. Lots of good cafes near by with much lower prices and better coffee. I also think it is petty to charge for second device on Wifi.

First the great features of this historical hotel in Oaxaca: It is an unbelievably beautiful hotel for all the reasons that many have already written about. The serenity and tranquility are much welcomed features after a long day of tracking across the city, or touring one of the many outlying villages. There is impressive security 24/7, I'm not sure why... More

The hotel grounds are beautiful- an old house, old church and old government building all connected. Due to its charm, it has events through out the day, but the logistics are wonderful and they do not interfere with your stay. The food is great- specially the breakfast. Try the local quesadillas with chapulines (grasshopper). The home made tortillas are delicious.... More

The other reviews have described this lovely lodging's charms at length, so all I can say on that score is that everything described is the truth. I can only add that the service was the finest imaginable. Everyone involved from the top management and concierges to the doormen, waiters and housekeepers were unfailingly friendly and helpful. The location was absolutely... More

We stayed four nights recently at this beautiful hotel in Oaxaca. Very central location so we could walk everywhere. Well appointed rooms and wifi was free for one device per room. This hotel is a convent dating to the 1800s that was later a jail and then a government building; the impeccably kept rooms and grounds offer beauty, charm, history, and even ghost stories. They offer high-end service and details like a robe, bath slippers, bath scale, and toiletries, but rooms are average size, and for a gym, you have to... More
