My first time in Mexico city and first time in years staying in a hostel, I was not disappointed on either front. The hostel was spotless, quiet, had net access and full kitchen facilities.
But the real find was the owner Arron, it was almost like having your own personal guide to Mexico city, he had great advice on where to go, how to get there, save money etc. I saw more in 3 days thanks to him then I would have had in a week(or more) on my own.
The hostel is located only 15-20 min walk from Chapultepec park and Paseo reforma and despite all the stories Id heard about Mexico city, I found the neighbourhood quiet and safe.
Im no expert on hostels but if its your first time in Mexico city, I couldnt think of a better place to stay. Worth every penny and a great base to explore an amazing city.

Hostel Montejo is located in the relatively quiet neighborhood of Azuras, within walking distance to Chapultepec park and the swanky neighborhood of Polenquo. Basically this is a large home with all private rooms (doubles and singles) that surround an open courtyard. At the time of this writing, the dorms were not in use (and I didn't even see where they were).
The two kind hosts of Montejo are Aaron and Manuel. They are always present in their ground floor room (all of the private rooms are on the 2nd) and are always willing to help with any questions, directions, and help you may need. Aaron is excellent with helping establish an itinerary for the day. He made my trip very easy by laying out each day's activities and how to get there (and places to avoid).
The rooms are fairly spartan, but clean and cheerfully painted. The bathroom facilities are also clean and hot water is plentiful. The self service Breakfast room is open from 8am to 10:45am and is a simple but satisfying...
