A friend recommended we stay at San Diego and gave us the name of the manager. Our schedule did not permit an overnight stay, but we went to the hotel anyway and asked the manager if he could suggest a way we could get a feel for the flavor of the city and its people within the 6-7 hours we... Hotel San Diego is at the heart of downtown Guanajuato. The swirl of activity and the excellent selection of affordable restaurants just steps of the hotel, make this a very convenient place to stay if you don't plan to sleep. The lively crowd parties late into the night at the Jardin. Like most hotels in the center of town, the... More

Location - Having escaped from a rundown isolated rental house in the hills of GTO ironically called "Casa Bella", we thought we had died and gone to heaven when we stumbled upon Hotel San Diego right smack in the middle of Le Jardin and the true center of GTO. Huge wide lobby doors open directly onto the Jardin Square which... More

On our first trip to Guanajuato, we chose this hotel because of the price and location. It had the best location in town especially since we were there for my son's wedding and the church was just outside our hotel's doorsteps. It served its purpose right there...also staff was friendly and helpful and overall service was pretty good. They were... More

The location could not be better. It's right next to the Jardin Square and Teatro Juarez. It's very exciting to be there and you can walk anywhere you want. The staff is friendly and helpful. That being said, it is one of the noisiest places I have ever stayed at. The rooms are dim and dingy looking. The linens are... More

Rooms are beyond tired - ugly nylon bedspreads, fluorescent lights, ancient brown carpets with stains, narrow uncomfortable beds, almost no natural light. Under no circumstance accept a room on 'first' floor, we were in room 104 and it is effectively underground with a tiny window which gives onto street level. The noise is something else - we spent the entire... More

Good morning, first of all we offer an apology for replying to your comments so far. This hotel is located right in the middle of the fun on the Jardin square. We could see the singing minstrels from our balcony! The common areas are pretty nice with colorfully tiled walls and a lovely view from the upper courtyard. The rooms themselves lack all charm with ugly overhead lights and fluorescent reading lights. There was one very... More

We had hoped to stay at the Hotel San Diego many nights, but left after one night. The AC did not work. The elevator was temperamental. The noise from the streets below kept us awake most of the night. Friendly staff and very good Italian restaurant in the building. .But ???

The interior rooms are nothing special, actually a bit depressing for my taste as the only have a window onto a hallway that faces a courtyard, thus are dark, but quiet. The exterior rooms facing Jardin de la Union and Templo San Diego have french-style balconies. The staff warned me that they are noisy way into the night (2AM...) but... More

A friend and I stayed at Hotel San Diego in Guanajuato for a week in April, 2013. I have stayed at this hotel twice before and always enjoyed it. This time the rates were much higher even though Easter week was over. We had adjoining rooms on the corner of the building with balconies overlooking the central plaza( the jardin)... More
