There are two things that add some value to this hotel above others in the area. The building dates from the XVI century and its next door to the main sites of downtown Guadalajara. It seems, however that its last renovation was 30 years ago, although bathrooms were ok. Obviously there are a lot of issues with the hotel, two... more

If any hotel deserves the accolade, ageless charm, it must be the Hotel Frances, 400 years old next year (2010). Conveniently located near Plaza Hidalgo, the Cathedral, and the rest of Guadalajara Central, Hotel Frances offers friendly hospitality together with a sense of being a part of Colonial Mexico. Like many ladies of a certain age, however, Frances is not... more

We stayed at this hotel based on a recommendation from our friend who lived in Guadalajara. It was a neat historic hotel. Our room was on the second floor and was quite roomy with a queen size bed. The room had two huge french doors that opened to the balcony. There was no A/C but we didn't need it. The... more

We had a room in the third floor that looked great from an architecture point of view. It had exposed joist with clay tiles above. Very pretty saltillo tile floor. Great balcony with a carved door. Nice iron rail at the balcony that would not meet code here in the u.s. Its so wide that a child can fall trough... more

I have been to Guadalajara many times and always have stayed at the Hotel Frances. The location is right downtown and walking distance to historical plazas, churches, and museums. When I first stepped into the hotel I felt like I had gone back in time. The hotel is a historic landmark in Guadalajara. Not 5 stars but well worth the... more

We have stayed at Hotel Frances a couple of times now and I have to say we love it. Yes, some of the rooms are small, but some are wonderful suites with large closets, an ante-room, and large bedroom with french doors opening to small balconies overlooking the historic center of Guadalajara. The location can't be beat and the price... more

Well I have to say that Hotel Frances should be renamed Nohotel Frances. My wife and I stayed there for three nights in September 2008 and found the place to be well below a standard low budget hotel. I would give it a one star for location only other than that, the place should be demolished. The place is falling... more

It's a cryin' shame that this old jewel is being allowed to sit and rust. Hotel Frances is in a GREAT downtown location, and the building itself has tremendous charm. It would take some money to keep it in good repair, furnish the rooms comfortably, do some cosmetic improvements, remodel bathrooms, keep the elevator running, etc. -- and it's apparent... more

The courtyard for this hotel was great. It was a wonderful place to sit. Unfortunately the rooms were dark and pretty depressing. It was definitely a case of you get what you pay for. The staff was not overly friendly but civil. It was in a good central location. The breakfast buffet was probably something most people would want to... more
