When you walk past the gates of the Catalina you enter a special Narnia like world. Yes, it's a bit old world, but more so it is timeless. The hotel is not one big monolith, but rather several buildings nestled into a jungle hillside. Stone paths and stairs connect them to the beach, the dining room, and the pool. Some... More

This place certainly has a lot of personality. We stayed in the Linda Vista suites, the most recent addition and very well presented. They have lovely balconies with huge hammocks and deck chairs. The beach is great, but the guy running the beach bar was trying to close up at 4pm every day when he was supposed to be open... More

I have been going to Zihua for over 30 years and spend months on La Ropa every year.I own property right across the street from the hotel. I was painting and needed a place to go for the night. I've been to the restaurant and have been up-and-down those countless stairs hundreds of times. But this was my first stay... More

Been coming to Zihua for about 40 years, and I plan to keep coming til my ashes make the trip. Always, since the first, I've stayed at Catalina Beach Resort because it has the best people as well as the best location. Service, rooms, food and beach are all divine. I've gone all over the world, but I will keep... More

We stayed for 5 nights and had a wonderful time. We decided to upgrade to a room with air conditioning upon our arrival and staff was VERY accommodating, we also had a late flight out of ZIH and the staff was again helpful with helping us check out later than the 1PM scheduled time. Restaurant was great, beach was perfect... More

Yes, this hotel has seen better days...rooms are unkept, outdated, not very clean, with poor lighting, small and cramped. Towels are greyish and old. La casita room we had is tiny. Good location on playa de la Ropa beach though not the best. The infinity pool however is wonderful. Staff is good and friendly. Lots of stairs to go to... More

We traveled to Mexico the last week in January. This was our first stay in Zihuatsnrjo. We had stayed in Ixtapa a few years ago. We were very happy with just about everything about the Catalina! The week we were there it was very quite. The people that were there were very friendly and helpful. Most are return visitors so... More

The location above beach is great. The view from the restaurant and bar is great. Staff are friendly and helpful. But... Wifi reception is poor, and room design and room furnishings are so bad that, even with the advantages mentioned, the price of staying here seemed teetering on extreme to me. A 254 USD/night "bungalow" is actually a non-detached room... More

We've been going to Zihua now for around 10 years or so mostly staying at either Villa Mexicana or Hotel Irma. This time we decided to try another hotel. We chose the Hotel Catalina based on the reviews, the fact that they're on our favorite beach-la Ropa, and the availability of a beach bar. I booked through Orbitz where we... More
