Stopped by La Fonda after a few years of passing by this little gem. The VIEW is amazing and the dining area is sheltered by some glass but still semi-outside. Food was excellent but price better than average for service level and quality. I got sick after I got home but dont know from where so...

being a native san diegan I travel down to Rosarito beaches quite often. La Fonda is one of my top destinations for a couple reasons. #1 the hotel is right on the beach #2 the food is really good. Now that being said, remember this is mexico, these rooms are not high quality, the balcony is falling apart the furniture... More

Yesterday I drove by the La Fonda hotel in Baja California. I live just a mile or so south of the hotel. To my surprise I saw the parking of the hotel packed with furniture and equipment. It looked just like a huge garage sale. Later I was told by my Mexican workers that the former owner owner Dimity was... More

No one will mistake La Fonda for the Ritz, but that's not the point. This is a quirky, fun little hotel that's perfect for a weekend get-away. The service is beyond friendly, and just about everyone speaks English (if that's your concern). Check-in was easy. The room itself isn't very posh, but it has everything you probably need. It's in... More

Good food but they can't help shooting themselves in the foot. They love to take advantage of tourists by messing with the check; wrong total, wrong change, etc. and when we called them on it they told us the cash register was closed but we could have 2 margarita coupons. It was 8:15pm and the bar was open and busy.... More

As hotels go this is a joke and a huge rip off. Our rooms, #24 & 25 were in appaling shape. There was no water pressure and tepid water. The rooms were clean but there was a truly ghastly smell in both of them. It was really strong and we never did identify what the smell was, but it made... More

I've been staying at LaFonda Hotel - Restaurant since 1981 and love it. I think I stayed there in 79' but that was a high school trip and we really didn't remember much but that we had quail for dinner. Since that first visit we've gone back every summer. This is and was a great out of the way place... More

The view is great, but I would never go back. I ordered sea bass. It seemed more like Tilapia than sea bass. It was undercooked (raw) and I had to send it back. When it came back, it was tasteless and I didn't eat it. My sister didn't like the chicken dish she ordered and got sick at night from... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Just as American-style Las Rocas has its staunch devotees, many are loyal to La Fonda, a place for people who truly want to get away from it all. The rustic rooms don't come with minibars, state-of-the-art TVs, or phones. What they do have is an adventuresome appeal unlike that of any other northern Baja coast resort. Relaxation and romance are the key words at this small hotel and restaurant, which opened in the 1950s and hasn't changed a whole lot since. (http://www.frommers.com) ... more   less
