The staff at this pub are friendly and welcoming, the service was great. The menu is varied including exotic meats such as zebra! It is reasonably priced and full of flavour. If I was to target one area for improvement it would be the lack of a pub garden- with the warm evenings getting longer the absence of garden is... More

Visited for a nice pub lunch while the children were at school. We were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. The food and drinks were enjoyed whilst looking over brilliant views of Cornwall. Would recommend this place 100%. We will return.

So pleased to see the Rifle is open again - we stay regularly at Honicombe and need a local to spend our evenings. We ate there 3 times last week and each time, the service and food was excellent. Well done

On reaching the Rifle Volunteer I was a little concerned as from the outside it looks shabby but as soon as you go through the door you are met with a very attractive bar with comfy sofas leading to an open plan restaurant area. This is roomy and has wonderful countryside views. The owners and staff are very friendly and... More

We visited the Rifle Volunteer in May 2011 while driving round Devon and Cornwall. Initially we just called in for a drink in the early afternoon, then drove on intending to eat elsewhere. But we didn't find anywhere else that we wanted to eat, so we returned for dinner, having had a warm welcome and liked the atmosphere. There were... More

The Rifle Volunteer St Ann’s Chapel Tamar Valley Visit Sat 26 March. Saturday 26 March was a glorious spring day in the Tamar Valley. We spent the afternoon visiting Dawn at Tartendown Nursery. A beautiful secret valley near the village of Landrake where every daffodil was in bloom. There was real peace and tranquillity as we walked talked and dreamed... More

This is the third trip we have made in two months. Great value for money. The food in the restaurant is brilliant--enormous portions. If you do not drive it is about a 20-25 minute walk part way up hill (it is not 400 yds away!!!). There is a bus service or ask the staff for taxi numbers. Or, you can... More
