Good food at reasonable prices, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location near The Ridgeway and (unsurprisingly) the iron age white horse cut in the chalk. This pub is likely to appeal to visitors from abroad as a typical English country pub.

On a spur of the moment whim we decided to drop into the White Horse for an evening meal. We were a party of three (2 adults and a teenager) and had heard great things about the White Horse garden pizza oven. Upon arrival we made reference to the waitress behind the bar on what we had heard and asked... More

Can't believe the bad reviews on here - think some people just like to find fault in anything. If you like bland, characterless, faceless places ...travelodge/premier would suit. If you like a place that is full of character, old world charm, low oak beams, leaded windows, charming friendly hosts and delicious food...this is the place. We stayed for one night and... More

I have been to the White Horse a few times now to drink and to eat, and only have great things to say about it from the charming landlord to all the staff who can never do enough for you. The food is outstanding, I highly recommend the amazing pizza cooked in a stunning outside oven! The White Horse offers... More

We booked in advance for a table on the phone. On sitting at our table, we we rudely asked by another member of staff if we had booked. We confirmed we had booked for 2:30 a number of day prior. This member of staff then displayed the worst customer service I have ever experienced, informing us, in the most patronising... More

I love this website!! Concept of time Is unimaginable, but when someone is annoyed they have booked a table for lunch, for their family,, and forgot to wear their watch, and peeved with theirself, they did not get on here on time and they blame me!!!!!!!! Stayed overnight in early September in the family rooms. The rooms were spacious and it was good to have a lounge/TV area. Good attention to detail with toiletries, plenty of tea & coffee. Unfortunately wifi doesn't work in the rooms - so we sat in the bar with our iPads and phones! Great dinner menu and very good breakfasts cooked... More

This must be one of the most picturesque inns in the country. But it has also decided to serve some of the best pub food for miles around. This is a long, ambitious menu – not your usual pub-grub offerings – and it delivers spectacular results, including three ways with lamb which was sensational. This is a serious, committed kitchen.... More

We and our kids were really looking forward to lunch here; the half way point on a 10 mile circular Ridgeway walk. On arriving at the bar, we ordered drinks; all good so far. However, the atmosphere changed from happy to disappointed when we asked for the lunch menus and were asked "did we book?" There was no reference as... More

Staying at the White Horse for over a year now, working locally for a F1 team and away from home I need a place where I can get a good meal, pleasant surroundings, a quiet room away from the noise of the pub, my own front door, lots of hot water, clean towels and bed turned down each day, reliable... Myself and 3 of my friends ate here last night for my friends birthday and on arrival we went to the bar and were greeted by a blonde lady behind the bar who was so miserable and rude. We said we had a table booked and she said really abruptly "what name?" and we told her then we had to... More
