Wonderful old pub well off the beaten track but worth a leisurely visit south of Theale.Surprisingly 'strandard' menu, steaks, burgers, fish and chips etc.Opted for the smoked haddock fishcakes which had a solid fish content (£10.00) served over crispy kale (veg of the moment) sitting on a bed of tzatziki. The Cambridge Bitter was first class (£3.50) and the service was swift, efficient and attentive.... we booked a late table for Sunday lunch. All diners had eaten or were just been served, so we thought all good. No such luck. No less than 5 times did we have to order drinks from our table and by going directly to the bar! Making allowances as we chose to eat late , the food was an assortment... More

We recently ate at The Bull with friends we were visiting locally. There is an extensive menu and a very good selection of drinks (including some very well kept real ales). Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. We all enjoyed our meal however the experience was somewhat spoiled by finding out that the official Food Standards Agency hygiene rating for The... More

Firstly, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit, meals and drinks and welcome your comments in a previous review where you stated we served ‘possibly the best Sunday lunch’. We feel that your comments truly highlight the major issues that exist within the FSA ratings. The first we were made aware of this rating was through your review.... More

We truly enjoyed a family lunch in this great old pub, not only for the food - tasty and generous portions, lovely fat chips - but also for the wide range of beers, many of them local. The place is full of character and has the kind of truly "pubby" atmosphere which is unmatched anywhere in the world.

We gave this #1 as no option for 1/2. Visited this small pub yesterday, Saturday 27th Sseptember, for lunch. Ordered two soft drinks, one fish and chunky chips £14 and one scampi and chunky chips £13. Soft drink order had to be corrected twice, asked for a tiny splash of lime juice in soda, we asked to see as not... More

An idyllic pub full or character, great food, nice accommodation and wonderful staff!!! I seriously couldn't recommend it any more. We have been here a couple of times now because of the A* service you receive when you are there. The food was full of flavour (and style!) and the service was delivered with a smile. The staff will make... More

I love this place - its country charm; its fantastic food and its wonderful staff. I've eaten here a number of times with friends from the area and have never been disappointed. The menu is always so enticing, and executed perfectly too. I recently stayed in their accommodation when in the area for the races, and the rooms were just... More

We stayed and ate at The Bull whilst in the area for a long weekend with 8 friends. I don't often use Trip Advisor but the food and service was fantastic so I just wanted to say a "well done" to the guys who work there. The rooms were very tidy and clean and the bar area was very sociable... More

What can I say other than I whole-heartedly disagree with the negative review below. I go out of my way to visit this pub for the fantastic food, great service and atmosphere in general. When friends from London visit, this is my pub of choice and never yet has it disappointed. The staff strike a good balance in that they... More
