Firstly, I think the people who have levelled criticisms of this hotel should appreciate this is a different world, the Outer Hebrides and not akin to city life (and all the better for that); or city standards. How pathetic (desperate?) to moan about potholes in the approach/driveway! That said, accommodation is clean and comfortable and backed by a warm and... More

My husband and I took a few days away to the Uists at the start of October 2013, and we got caught in some major weather. High winds, sheeting rain, and even hail at points. As motorcyclists, we have often found that a vacancy sign has suddenly been reversed as we turn round, but in this case we were very... More

This hotel is to put it mildly overdue a make over. When I first turned up I was shown to my room by a young girl who failed to welcome me and was told "This is your room. Don't open the window or it will fall out as it's broken". The room I was allocated had dated furniture and a... More

A good place to stay as a base for exploring the north and south Uist area. The food is excellent which is good as the choices are limited. They had single rooms which was good for me and wi-fi (not advertised). Yes there could be some improvements but I saw some of it as just querky service! They offered an... More

We enjoyed our couple of nights at the Orasay Inn despite one or two slightly odd aspects of the stay. There are one or two arbitrary rules which seem to be there to make guests uncomfortable, e.g. the need to return the key to reception when leaving the premises (not having been warned when we checked in, we didn't see... Warm welcome, friendly staff, B&B atmosphere with hotel accomodation. Clean rooms and dito bathroom. The restaurant serves goooood food. The full breakfast is as full as you want. We (3 persons) ordered 2 rooms for 2 nights and prepaid it. We had to leave after one night however, as we had an unexpected appointment on the main land. The owner... More

Unbelievable! I do have to thank the reviewer for his complimentary comments on our hotel and restaurant. However I am rather puzzled by his comments, re his party's early departure. The booking was made at a considerably discounted rate, by way of the Advance Purchase facility. It is clearly stated (as he admits) that no refund is due for cancellation... More

Our first impression on finding the "Orasay Inn" in beautiful South Uist was of visual disappointment. It looked like a 1950s American motel (think Alfred Hitchcock and Anthony Perkins). Not only is it dated overdue for modernisation but outside there were glaring eyesores including an ugly shed in dire need of re-painting, pot holes in the drive, fence slats that... More

Wow! We should feel honoured to have had a visit from such a far travelled and prolific reviewer. An average of 1 review every 5 days! Probably retired, with time to kill. Unfortunately, as one would imagine, our feelings are rather different. We are of course delighted with his praise of the food and staff but we do take issue... More

We stayed at the Orasay Inn for three nights and ate each evening in the wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable. Having a drink in the lounge whilst perusing the menu and specials board was a nice touch before being called through to our table and our food shortly... More

I always stay here when I travel to Uist. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Food is splendid. The evening meal food is very good restaurant quality, my favourite is the monk fish. The breakfast is equally sensational with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs standard on the menu. Friendly, helpful staff.

The Orasay Inn used to be my second home about 12 years ago whilst I was doing extensive trips to the Outer Hebrides. So, when I had to return to the Hebrides last week on business, it was my first choice of hotel on the islands, despite some of the negative reviews posted here. Well, I can say that the... More
