this lodge is 10 minutes walking distance from the park, it has six rooms and a generous patio to sit out during the day. it seems to be done in a balinese style. the rooms and bathrooms are clean and you meet interesting people to hang out with in the evening, when you are tired from the day out. there... This hotel consists of six rooms around a common hallway in a longhouse. It is attractively presented, and is a servicable alternative for those who cannot get a room at the park or the resort. But be advised: the mechanical systems of the house are problematic. Electrical problems meant that most of the rooms had no hot water the week... More

Nice lodge to stay if you want to visit the caves of Gunung Mulu NP. it's a lodge , so there is no hotel service available. But the sheets and the towels are fresh and clean. During daytime it happened that the power supply felt out. So no working fridge and no cold drinks when we returned hot and sweaty... More

We had booked a mini-trip to Mulu through a 3rd party so didn't choose where we stayed. The lodge was lovely and the room clean and comfortable. However it seemed to be staffed by 2 nice ladies who turned up to cook breakfast and dinner and disappeared in between (food was great by the way). Also there was no electricity... More

We were looking for a good stay at Mulu for our visit in Sept 2009. All the sites related to Mulu directed us to Royal Mulu Resort, which I thought was a very commercialized, mass market resort. On further research I stumbled upon the Matumau lodge and thought it was the kind of place I would love to stay at.... More

My husband and I booked for 5 nights at the Matumau at the end of July 2009. We loved it so much we changed flights and added a 6th night. This is a small guesthouse - just five rooms, right next to one of the big rivers that flows through the national park. The atmosphere is relaxed and peaceful. The... More

Wow. Matumau Lodge is absolutely fantastic. It is such a shame that it is not more widely known about. The lodge is located 50m from the airport , beside the river in a small clearing. It is very well designed, tastefully decorated and expertly run. Helen and her staff cooked us the most amazing food. Every meal contained a variety... More

This accomodation enabled our group of six adults and three youths to take advantage of being in the rainforest without having to sleep rough. On the contrary, this environmentally friendly lodge made our holidays a treat: what a pleasure after the long walks to Deer Cave, Clear Water, Camp 5 (and even to the summit of Mulu for the most...
