Eaten here twice in the last few days and the food is just wonderful; hard to take recent negative comments seriously, and I just wonder just where they thought they were? The bar area is also not what you might think from the outside of the hotel; it's a really nice bar, a normal every day pub atmosphere. Service on... More

Having eaten at many supposed gastro pubs and seafood speciality restaurants in England and Scotland I have to say that our meal for 4 at the Mayview on 10/8/14 was fantastic. Service was super. Staff were friendly and efficient. The food was superb. I suppose you cannot please everyone all the time but those posting such desperate negative comments need... More

I cannot understand previous negative comments about the food here. We stayed overnight whilst walking the coastal path. Staff were incredibly helpful and it was a good room and very comfortable. We ate in and had a lovely meal - would definitely visit again.

I find it hard that a chef can produce Scotch Broth that's tasteless and requires copious quantities of salt and pepper and follow the act with the taste stripped from smoked haddock (the poached egg on top was appropriately hard). My daughters cheese burger had been obliterated in the microwave (I've hopefully loaded a photo of that). Service was great!(on... More

Difficult to take seriously the negative review posted by Lee F! We have frequently eaten at the Mayview, our local, and always found the food and service excellent. Our friends have stayed there and our son and his wife had their wedding reception in the function room. All of the guests were most complimentary and every other function I have... More

I attended with my girlfriend in April for a few drinks on a Friday. The staff were very friendly and the beer was well priced, this was well priced. What more would you like in a nice little coastal town :)

Quality of food was an insult, very, very poor. Chef Gordon Ramsey would rip the food to bits and using the F word a great deal in the process. I ordered the starter 'smoked mussels in cheese sauce' (sounded interesting). Well, I have to say, it’s the first time I’ve ever had mussels served to me at a table like... More

I have previously reviewed the Mayview .....it's still very good. This is above average bar meals with a more formal small restaurant in another room. We always eat in the lounge bar. I have never been disappointed with the quality of the food here & it's reasonably priced. One other notable mention is the decent house wine & it's not... More

This was delicious food, mostly seafood and the place was very child-friendly. Very modest portions though. I like more on my plate than that. Great beers and very friendly service, though not that fast.

We had a great family evening meal on Thursday evening July 25th, great fish dishes, halibut rissotto, monkfish in a lobster sauce and mouth watering desserts. If you are in the area we would strongly recommend giving it a try.
