Been coming here for years. this was our first visits since it was taken over. The new owners have not done it any favours. We went on the Saturday and the Sunday. On the Saturday, the waiter was pretty grumpy and we waited ages for somebody to take our order. We had the soup which was lovely and chicken &... More

Enjoyed a lovely meal with family while staying at the local caravan site. We hadn't booked and it was busy but the staff were very accommodating and fitted us in! so glad as it was a lovely setting and the meal was fantastic! I would definitely recommend this for a meal although would suggest booking as it's very popular, we... More

I've stayed here many times. Its a quaint traditional pub and only has 4 or 5 rooms, but staff are really friendly and the restaurant is outstanding. It stands on a village green with a ruined castle opposite and Dirleton is a very pretty village. The rooms are traditional and some only have showers, but Room 4 has a Jacuzzi... More

Didn't enjoy the sauce with my dish but it was well cooked and presented and have no doubt if I had ordered something like the steak I would've really enjoyed it. Partner had fish in batter which was a little greasy but I'm not put off and will try again. Well renovated inside.

We visited for Easter Sunday lunch with family. Very welcoming place and the food was good and tasty - when it arrived 1 hour 40 minutes after we ordered it ! The new girl on the waitressing staff was doing her best, but the more experienced staff were curt and unhelpful to say the least. Shame but I'll go to... More

Nice food and friendly waiters but horribly cold. Toilet is a traditional lavatory in the sense it resembles an outhouse and not in a good way. Seemingly no concept of customer service. After telling staff it was cold, it got a lot colder when the heating was turned off and 3 separate sets of doors were deliberately wedged back so... More

First time at the castle inn and had heard good things. Overall the whole thing was a disappointment. Food was nothing more than average pub grub which was a shame as the prices are that bit more than your average pub. The place was freezing from the moment we walked in yet apparently the heating was on full. Seemed odd... More

A lot is written about the 'English Breakfast' but in my experience a good Scottish Breakfast takes some beating and sadly the breakfast at the Castle Inn was not good. The choice of juices and cereals was limited but I was saving myself for the cooked breakfast. I ordered bacon grilled tomato poached egg and tattie scones. The latter is... More
