Daniel and Danny who run Shady Oak bed and breakfast and pub are the most marvellous landlords. They are very friendly and cordial to their guests. In our so many years travelling around we Never came across such polite with kind manners flexible landlords. They make sure to make you feel at ease in your stay at Shady Oak. They... More

Don't be put off by any negative reviews from before February 2015 - Danni and his team have only owned the pub since then. There aren't enough country pubs like this anymore. We stayed here for 2 nights with our "little brown canine friend" and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Some key things to mention:- - The staff, and everyone at... More

My wife and I had a wonderful four day, three night stay at the Shady Oak. Stunning location within easy reach of Buxton and Bakewell. Under new management, the service was excellent and the cosy room was very clean with tea and coffe facility included. Breakfast was excellent and was ideal preparation for a busy day as only a coffee... More

Spent a lovely Saturday night over the Easter period staying in the twin room at the Shady Oak with my husband, 4month old baby and little dog. Having read the previous reviews, I was a bit apprehensive however this was short lived as soon as we got there. The new owner Danny assisted with our luggage ( as we had... More

I have been waiting for an opportunity to try out this pub under the new owners, as it has changed hands twice since I moved here and the location is far too good to lose. (Judging by date, the previous good review is for the current owners.) Well, good news! The food is excellent, and reasonably priced. Every item -... More

The upper Goyt Valley between Whaley Bridge and Buxton is one of the most visited parts of the Peak District National Park. It is easy to see why. The surrounding gritstone ridges and moorland provide some classic Dark Peak hikes, the rocky outcrops at Windgather attract the climber, and a network of lanes and bridleways draw the cyclist and horse... food seems quite nice but if you want a drink after ten pm you will be lucky as they like to shut up shop as soon as they can. They want this place to be a restaurant not a pub. Another nail in the coffin of the local community.

After spending a cold Sunday morning on the Goyt Valley moorland, 6 of us called in, on spec to get warm & be fed! They managed to provide us with a table and we all chose the Sunday Roast. Excellent food, good value and helpful service. Thank you

Not eaten here for a couple of years and it is under new ownership. Meal was excellent and the welcome was the same. The open fire was lovely and helped to create a homely atmosphere. Will return soon!!
