My husband and myself stayed earlier this year at the Goyt Valley Camping Site next door in our touring caravan. In fact the new landlord had just moved into the pub that weekend. We were staying on the camp site with quite a few others who were booked to play a gig in Stalybridge on the Saturday night but we... More

A lovely pub/restaurant with a homely atmosphere. Staff were very polite and attentive. The sunday roast was one of the best I have ever had, and reasonably priced. Large car park and in excellent location in the Peak District. Highly Recommend, and hope to return soon.

We had a light lunch here today (10th Oct).I believe that these people have just taken over during the last couple of weeks. We were very impressed. The food was homemade and delicious! We had steak on ciabatta with salad and wedge chips. The salad was beautifully presented with attention to detail. Everywhere was spotless and the staff were friendly.... More

Me and my partner had come from bury for a walking weekend, I was told over the phone when I rang about availability that we would be in a twin room, which was ok because I presumed the beds would be set for a couple when we got there as I requested, when we arrived the beds were still set... More

Called in by chance on Saturday lunchtime. Excellent service from the start, made to feel very welcome. Choice of two menus. We both opted for the steak and ale pie. A bit pricey but it sounded very good. Came with thick hand cut chips, seasonal vegetables and gravy in individual mini jugs. Shortly after we had started to eat, we... More

We were also here on bank hol Monday and had a similar experience. The special beer had run out. We were given the lunch time menu which had a good range of "light" meals of sandwiches, baked potatoes, omelettes etc but there were only two options on the specials board. I ordered ribs which were sold out so ended up... More

The Shady Oak is under new management, on the specials board was a spare ribs dish dish, this was one of the tastiest rib dishes I have had in a long while, marinated with Jack Daniels with home made chunky chips, slaw and salad. we will be back!

Firstly, the pub, which is under new ownership, is a traditional, comfy pub with great views on a clear day across the valley towards Taxal Edge and a good call after walking in the area. Unfortunately when we were there on Bank Holiday Monday, the weather was atrocious. The choice of beers, from the Marstons stable, was a bit limited,... More
