Stayed here for 1 night on Sunday 14/9 the bedrooms had just been refurbished by the new owners who were very friendly and really could not do enough for you. Bed was very cumfey with a powerful hot shower and lovely views over the rolling green hillside. We had steak with handmade chips for our evening meal which was delicious... More

Called in by chance on Saturday lunchtime. Excellent service from the start, made to feel very welcome. Choice of two menus. We both opted for the steak and ale pie. A bit pricey but it sounded very good. Came with thick hand cut chips, seasonal vegetables and gravy in individual mini jugs. Shortly after we had started to eat, we... More

We were also here on bank hol Monday and had a similar experience. The special beer had run out. We were given the lunch time menu which had a good range of "light" meals of sandwiches, baked potatoes, omelettes etc but there were only two options on the specials board. I ordered ribs which were sold out so ended up... More

The Shady Oak is under new management, on the specials board was a spare ribs dish dish, this was one of the tastiest rib dishes I have had in a long while, marinated with Jack Daniels with home made chunky chips, slaw and salad. we will be back!

Firstly, the pub, which is under new ownership, is a traditional, comfy pub with great views on a clear day across the valley towards Taxal Edge and a good call after walking in the area. Unfortunately when we were there on Bank Holiday Monday, the weather was atrocious. The choice of beers, from the Marstons stable, was a bit limited,... More

Had a lovely lunch today at the Shady. Simple home cooked food with great customer service from Phil. Well worth a visit, I had a chicken ceasar salad and hubby had a burger. Good fresh food. Give it a try. Used to only be able to take dogs in the small room in the left but can now go anywhere,... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our break at The Shady Oak. Beautiful pub and scenery, excellent food and service. It's such a shame that Craig and Sue are moving on to pastures new. We wish them all the luck in their new venture and would definitely recommend their next establishment. Such a lovely and friendly couple.

We chanced upon this pub onn a very wet bank holiday weekend. The views were lovely, despite the rain and cloud. We ate, fish and chips and pie and chips. Both very nice. The chips weren't much to write home about but they were ok. Nice welcoming atmosphere and would go back if in the area again.

Visited the Shady Oak again today (15 April 2014) and once again we had two superb main courses. The atmosphere in the pub is very relaxing and the members of staff are usually welcoming and helpful. Whatever you choose from the starters, main course or dessert will be hot, well presented and delicious.Try to save room for dessert, the home... More
