We stayed here over Easter and amazingly we were the only people in the Hotel. The staff were very attentive. There is a fantastic chef. There is an a la carte menu which was great and also you can get top-notch pub grub in the bar adjoining. I think it's called The Ghillie. The hotel is in the middle of... More

We stopped here in the middle of a snow storm on our penultimate day from cycling Land's End to John O'Groats. The log fire in the lounge was extremely welcoming and well kept. The evening food in the restaurant was surprisingly good given how early in the season our stay was. Whilst the hotel is not new and the rooms... More

Once again we had a very happy and warm stay at the Altnaharra hotel Thanks to Aaron and Becy for a very relaxing stay with lovely food, after a full day on the river in February the roaring fire was most appreciated and in the mornings warm dry waders from the drying room made a comfy start to the day.... Officially located "in the middle of nowhere" :) this hotel is a little gem, very hospitable staff, clean, warm and welcoming, good selection of food, well cooked and presented, a very enjoyable few days, will be returning next year.

We visited this hotel in august this year on two occasions on a coastal trip of Scotland. We stopped for refreshments on our way to Jon o Groats and was greeted by the chefs in the car park and was soon talked into having a meal in the bar, a very small bar indeed but also a very impressive lounge... We had a superb long weekend at the Altnaharra with a group of friends. Despite having never fished before we girls were soon out on a Loch learning how it’s done! We are all delighted to catch some trout which provided a delicious starter prepared by Freddie the chef. The walking in the area is fantastic with views one could... More

Not recommended unless you are keen on hunting, fishing etc. The room had seen better days, the bathroom was unwelcoming and basic and the food was really only good pub grub and nowhere near the standard expected or advertised. Things like a chipped mug on the hospitality tray, two TVs in the room (presumably one was broken?), hairdryer lead not... More

We had a great few days at the Altnaharra Hotel in mid-September. The fishing & golf were excelllent with nearly 200 fish ( mainly brown trout ) caught in the week by 8 of us. Hospitality & service was fantastic, with nothing too much trouble for the staff. Looking to next year already!

Country house hotel experience at it's best. Outstanding food, staff and knowledgeable "Ghillies" top fishing on local lochs with the required permission and tackle provided. Handy for many golf courses as well. We will be back.

A super, friendly hotel, excellent for families, friends or a romantic stay in the Highlands. Nothing was to much trouble for the friendly staff, food was first class, and the warm, cosy lounge was an ideal place to retreat and sample a well stocked single malt bar. The Altnaharra Hotel is ideally placed for a golfing, fishing (where your trip... More
