WE stayed 2 nights, we had a lovely room (5) comfy bed and lots of space, the shower was small but worked well. The food was very good as we eat both evenings the menu was interesting. the breakfast was very tasty. Great value. We would visit again. More

It is difficult to rate this Hotel. The food and staff would definately get a five star rating. However the room was tired, no coat hangers in wardrobe, just hooks, which marked clothes. The bathroom was large but the shower was not inviting, with black mould. In saying that the bed was immaculate and very comfortable. It would not take... More

We had a lovely room overlooking the main street, with original sash windows and shutters. The room was large and extremely comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. The breakfast (all local produce) was cooked to perfection each day. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and really enjoyed... More

Stayed for one night on our way north. No reservation in hand so we were pleased to find a suitable family room. Room was okay. Nothing remarkable though. In need of a little TLC and freshening but not bad. The heat didn't work fully which resulted in nice sleep but an uncomfortable showering in the morning. We had dinner in... More

Not staying but having dinner with several acquaintances I did not complain at the time as it would have spoiled the mood of the occasion. The decor was pleasant, the service slow and the portions miserly, for example the starter of "haggis bon bon and whisky sauce" comprised three very small balls of haggis and a thin brown flavoured sauce,... We stayed three nights at the hotel - room was large, extremely clean and very comfortable. It is in a great location in the Scottish Borders, within forty minutes of Edinburgh and, as we found, in a lovely part of the country - the Borders have so much to see and do, something we really only discovered when we arrived... We didn't stay at this hotel we only had Christmas lunch. The service is superb, but it was let down by the tradional Christmas turkey, which was more of a rolled turkey and the swede (I think it was swede) was a mushy liquid on the side of the plate. The gravy didnt go with any of the meat on... More

My husband and I went here for my birthday in November. Got a great deal for two nights bed and breakfast with one night's dinner included for a very small amount through a deal website. We absolutely loved it! All the staff looked after us well and every meal with delicious. Dinner was wonderful- we had all three courses and... More

I have been to the Black Bull a few times over the last couple of years and stopped going when it was under the old management as the service was dreadful, food below average and staff very unwelcoming. However - now it is a different place! The menu is really interesting and different, the food delicious and the staff are... More

Stopped here for lunch one day last week, had burgers which definitely didn't taste homemade and were rather unpleasant. The girl serving was cheery but she was on her own so service was slow. More
