We chose this hotel for its location and description as relaxing and friendly. We arrived early and were helpfully informed of a nearby walk around a loch which we took and thoroughly enjoyed. This was followed, after check-in, by a delicious evening meal of excellent quality. The hotel sells itself on being traditional, and has features such as tartan on... More

One of the better ones, staff friendly, food top rate as was the service also dog friendly rooms with private balconies. Okay very near a busy road so you do ge traffic noise but can you get everything in one location, this family run hotel ticks so many boxes I would certainley recomend it.

This is a hotel for walkers, with trails to loch and in woods in Cairngorm National Park. The staff are the friendliest we have encountered in the U.K. Even volunteered to do our wash. The dinner and breakfast were very good. The rooms in the main building have nice individual balconies. There are also very attractive wooden cottages for families.

After reading the web site and reviews we booked here expecting a great experience. Initially very surprised to find the hotel fronting a main road. We gained impression from website etc that it was in the countryside! On arrival a sign on door said hotel closed for private function. We walked into a wedding party getting very boisterous Reception a... More

Popped in here for a spot of lunch as we were holidaying nearby and wanted to see what was going on all about us. Ambience nice, staff friendly and the food good. Nice looking hotel from the road and inside it has an authentic old type feel to it. However - £35 for 2 sandwhiches, 9 chips, a can of... More

Excellent menu at very reasonable prices (Two courses plus Coffee for £25). Attractive dining ambience, attentive service and a great meal. Having eaten in at least 10 restaurants in the area, this was easily the best dining experience in the Ballater - Aboyne area. Recommend booking to avoid disappointment. Next time, we'll stay the night and enjoy the comprehensive wine... More

This is a great hotel in a fantastic location. Friendly staff and excellent food. The rooms are amazing. I went to a function with work and the atmosphere was brilliant. The rural location adds to the atmosphere too. I recommend this hotel 100%.

Had a one night break with husband and 2 dogs - really easy and enjoyable. Lovely outside area to sit and look at the small garden in the evening sun. Dinner was very good - set price, good choice and very tasty. Dogs are allowed in bar, so we retired there after dinner with our wine. Very relaxed friendly feel... More
