Great food served by friendly staff and they cannot do enough for you. Everytime we go my husband has their homemade Steak Pie. We have yet to have a meal there we have not enjoyed. When our friends visit from Surry this is the first restaurant we have to book as he cannot believe the quality of the food and... More

After visiting The Big Pit we called in to The Rifleman for Sunday lunch. We arrived minutes before they stopped serving food at 3.00 p.m. but were still met with a warm welcome by the staff. The restaurant area is set out a bit like a canteen with tables filling the room but saying that the food was excellent. A... More

Why, in an unprepossessing inn in the middle of a coal town in south Wales, would you ever expect to find anything other than a mediocre British lunchtime experience? I wouldn't, for one, but I and my group of friends were bowled over by the generous and warm hearted welcome by the team of very attractive young ladies behind the... More

we tried a meal here the other day.thought it might be good but rather disappointed.i had soup to start, which had obviously come out of a packet, because it was thick and gloopy.then the steak i had for the main course was quite tasteless in fact it did not actually taste like steak.and the landlord seems more interested in selling secondhand cars... The room was nice enough, decent sized room, bed and could move in the shower. Breakfast was the usual panic about what do vegans eat but I was happy with my plate - basically everything but the meat :0-) Staff were friendly and laid back.

Not a frequent visitor, but when we go you can always rely on excellent food, and service. We were a party of 6, and chose 5 different meals between us, all the meals looked appetising, I could have eaten either one of them. Good food, good service, reasonable prices, and good beer what more do you want.

Following an excellent visit to The Big Pit lunch was needed, we were directed to The Rifleman's. Parking was not so easy but when we entered the Inn were were welcomed in a truly Welsh manner, warm, friendly one could not ask for more. The restaurant is comfortable and warm, there was rain and a cold wind blowing outside. The... More

I had pork medalion which was cooked to perfection and the homemade chips the best I've ever had!. The hostess went out of her way to make our lunch enjoyable and was very helpful... More
