We had a 3-course lunch here on Friday. It was busy but booking probably wouldn't have been necessary. It was pleasantly warm and there was a nice atmosphere. The menu is very extensive so deciding what to have was difficult. Our order was taken promptly and we didn't have to wait long for any course. All the dishes were very... More

I recently visited The Lamb & Flag on a busy weekend with my young family and cannot fault the service at all. We were greeted by a warm, friendly staff member as soon as we entered and our booked table was ready even though we were a little early. I couldn't get over how extensive the menu was and at... We visited the Lamb & flag on a spur of the moment sunday lunch time, as we imagined it was busy - but the staff greeted us with enthusiam and helped us find a table. We were with our friend's and their 2 year old son, they played with him, gave him a pack for him to play with and... More

We recently organised a 70th birthday party at the lamb and flag for my father, we had to pick a buffet menu, which we did. I thought that the function room was very 'tired' and scruffy and the food was appalling. The buffet menu really needs a revamp - doorstep sandwiches filled with a paste like substance, tortillas covered in... More

After quite abit of research on good places to stay for one night around the Abergavenny area, we decided to book the Lamb & Flag. It wasn't for a special occasion so we didn't want a posh hotel. We didn't want an isolated B&B either. What we did want was good, clean, reasonably priced accommodation, with good pub grub and... More

My wife and I have eaten here on several occasions and the food is inconsistent. Some of the times half the menu seems to be off and what is left is poor. Other days it's all on and absolutely spot on.

We've stopped by here for lunch many times and it never fails to hit the spot. Even though it's a Brains pub (we normally avoid chain restaurants) the food is wonderful and the portions are enormous!!! Sometimes a little too big, we've never had room for dessert :-( One of the most delicious lunches I've ever had was here -... More

Very convenient location for the Sugar Loaf and easy to find (on A40). Very friendly and helpful staff. Good pub-style food. Renovated rooms, clean and modern look. Booking on their own website is cheaper than through internet/agents.

This is the second time i've stayed in this Inn and would stay here again. After completing the south wales 3 peak trial, we arrived early evening, and as you can imagine ( after walking 8 hrs up and down mountains ) not lookign our best, but we were warmly greeted and not made to feel uncomfortable having a welcome...
