We booked a 2 night stay at The Lion. Upon arrival we were greeted by Darren to whom nothing was too much trouble. The Lion is a charming, olde worlde hotel, public house and restaurant in a perfect setting of a "chocolate box" style village, which boasts plenty of walks both canal and river. Our room was large, airy and... More

My husband and I recently stayed here for a short break and we were delighted with our stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was delicious (with enormous portions!). Our room was delightful - clean and spacious. The hotel is located in a pretty village with plenty of walking available in the surrounding countryside.

stayed on a 3 day deal.....and what a deal! lovely room in a lovely hotel! oldie worldie charm. Martin and his staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble, the food is excellent and I asked for and got poached eggs on toast for breakfast ( more veggie options may be helpful) so not everything is fried as someone says...... We arrived at 7.30 on a Friday evening to a warm and friendly reception. The room was large and clean. Yes a little dated but that suits the oldie worldie atmosphere of the place - lots of exposed beams. Food was hot and tasty but a bit limited, no low fat options. Breakfast great but again everything fried. The only... More

Most people have heard of the TV saga Upstairs Downstairs refering to upper classes living up and servants downstairs but this hotel was Downstairs Upstairs to us. Good friendly reception by all staff members and cosy nice bar and smart restaurant. Food excellent too. Room upstairs number 4 very poor very small, cramped, low ceilings, dingy and the dormer windows... More

We have been here before for a drink and found the hotel very pleasant, so next stage - a meal in the restaurant. A reasonable Sunday menu with the usual price choices you can expect anywhere. All was edible if a little disappointing concerning main course - which seemed lacking in finesse and more like a TV dinner. Only a... More
