In transit towards Llanthony we were attracted by the appearance and position of The Bell, particularly as it coincided with late lunch. We then had a first class lunch with refreshments in the garden, accompanied by our retriever Sophie. The staff were outstandingly helpful and nothing was too much trouble, particularly as we moved table at the last moment due... More

We have just spent two nights here,I cant speak highly enough of their general standards. Our bedroom was lovely,it had a bathroom in a kind of minstrel gallery upstairs. The food was exceptionally good, also very attentive staff.

Firstly, the room was lovely; extremely comfortable bed and linen. Spacious private shower room up some stairs at split level to the room. Reasonable price for half board deal esp. as we went for the cheaper of the rooms. Just slippage in perhaps the attention to detail from when we last visited a few years ago. Some of the staff... Dined here in late August with two university friends I had not seen for a while, and my wife had never met. We had four different main 3 of which were excellent though the beef was not so good. The person who had ordered complained it was rather tough. The desserts were great although bread and butter pudding should have... More

Four of us booked a table for lunch at the Bell. It was quite busy when we arrived, and the staff were clearly stretched (a couple near our table left without eating, soon after we were seated, after waiting 40 minutes without their orders arriving). The specials looked interesting, including wild rabbit, but we were told, and only as we... More

Having found The Bell listed both in the Michelin Eating out in Pubs Guide (2012) and the Good Food Guide (2013) we thought we were in for a real treat when we went for lunch. What a disappointment. We had four mains. The two burgers were served in a bun with some tomato chilli jam and chunky chips. There were... More

No quibbles about writing a positive review after a lovely two-night stay. Our room (Tups Indispensable) was beautiful, food was excellent and service just right. Really good breakfasts! Huge bathroom with nice toiletries, all very clean. NIce buzz in the restaurant in the evening with wide mix of people. Tiny niggles: bed was on the hard side of firm, room... More

After a long day working in the Welsh Valleys, we drove this way to avoid traffic and stumbled across this place. Decided to stop for a pint and the greeting made us feel welcome, so much so that we decided to stop for dinner. They squeezed us in even though we had no booking and, judging by the way that... The Bell is situated on a quiet road by the river and is very pretty. A comfortable residents lounge and good airy dining room. Our room was well appointed with a firm but comfortable bed and, while on the front of the house, suffered no road noise. On arrival greeted cheerily but no offer to help with luggage (why not... Location stunning. Attractive restaurant. Food underwhelming and overpriced. We ate there on 2 consecutive nights. First night service good and food ok. Second night, a different story. Service poor, uncoordinated and slow. Mussels were poor- too many were not unopened and therefore inedible. Lamb was tasty but too small. Cheese board was passable. In summary- ok, but pricey.
