One of the most beautifully positioned inns anywhere. However, key parts of a great stay, like a well done breakfast need to be put in place. It was poorly prepared and of low quality. In addition we arrived on Sunday night and it suffered with what I call, Sunday night attitude. For dinner, some things were on the menu, then... More

We have just come back from a lovely stay at The Bell. True that not everything was perfect but why should it be - we are not talking about The Ritz here - slightly unrealistic expectations frome some commentators below. The new managers are very lovely and doing a grand job I'd say. A very happy and peaceful place.

We have just spent a couple of nights at the Bell. Although we liked the place and enjoyed ourselves, we did think the service was patchy. Two examples. One of our party had a starter based on goat's cheese on the first evening. It consisted of two small balls of cheese etc, just about enough to eat and very nice.... More

Oh how easy it is to jump on the critical band wagon just because the Bell is under new management. I have been coming to the Bell on average four times a year for the last five years and have just returned from another excellent stay. Before people criticise the new managers for leaving laundry in the corridor, leaving guests... More

We visited the Bell at the weekend for a celebratory family dinner, having had numerous recommendations to do so and much looking forward to it. All in all though it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. No welcome on arrival in the bar, we had to try several times to grab someone's attention. Then with menus thrust into... More

After been diverted 45miles in the wrong direction by our sat nav, we eventually arrived at the bell half an hour late, worth the extra journey, a very nice comfortable restaurant, lovely garden and the kitchen garden great , we were welcomed and sat by the fire with a very nice local gin and tonic, we were not rushed and... Luxurious stay with the most comfortable and luxurious bedding ever, Ideal for a romantic stay and for country walks. A selection of leaflets on suggested walks are available from reception or you can just take a stroll along the river. The food is of excellent quality. Simply scrumptious,

We were hoping to stay at this hotel in Dec 2012 for our 9th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately a couple of days beforehand circumstances overtook us and we had to postpone. The hotel kindly agreed to change our booking to December 2013. Then came December 2013 and at 4pm our son decided to have a sickness bug! Again, at the last... More

My partner and I stayed for one night last May for his birthday treat and had a lovely time. The room and service were faultless with the staff not being able to do enough for you. Whilst the food was very good I found it a bit too pretentious and the portions too small although it was nice to see... More

I can only concur with Ladderinthebush's review. Some friends and I visited in December. I felt over the course of the weekend, that the Bell had changed hands, checked on my return and saw that my hunch was correct. The food was very different this time, less fussy - less 'fine dining', but the quality was actually better on the... More
