Stayed for one night on Saturday 17th January. It was a Christmas gift from our son and family. We were given the whickham's fancy (all rooms are named after trout fishing dry flies) room 3 and it really did live up to expectations, four poster bed and a small sitting area with a comfy sofa and tv and windows with... Stayed overnight and had dinner. A warm welcome and superb bedroom with immaculate vast contemporary bathroom. Staff were charming and relaxed and the restaurant had a friendly and cosy atmosphere. Menu was interesting with robust quite simple dishes, which on the table exceeded their descriptions. Very generous portions of well cooked locally sourced ingredients. A fantastic bracing walk in the... More

Made a snap decision to spend a day walking in the Welsh Borders . Checked out The Bell on Trip Advisor, and seemed to meet our requirements and it DID in every respect and more !. A fine Inn, catering for outdoor types, set in the beautiful Welsh Borders. Small village with castle, river and beautiful walks, (the Inn has... More

We picked out the Bell on impulse, and found it even better than we hoped. Welcoming staff, warming open fire, comfortable well appointed bedroom and food which was freshly cooked and locally sourced. A walk in the morning up to Garway to look at the fortified church, and then back to explore the Castle gave us the appetite for a... More

The room was fine, clean and comfortable bed. However, the service (apart from excellent housekeeper) and the food are both poor. The food is dull, over-priced, repetitive and served in a crowded dining room. Same poorly cooked food on the menu of the day every day. Breakfast - scrambled egg on unbuttered sliced white bread. What a waste of the... More

I like inns with atmosphere and quality produce served well. This place had it all. Lovely quiet position in countryside near a river and castle ruin. Great locally sourced food cooked to a very high standard (and I'm "picky" as I travel regularly) and a really good barman too! Lovely local cider (award winning) from the farmer down the road... This 17th Century boutique hotel is a great place to relax. The staff are very helpful and friendly, though I did not hear one Welsh accent! The rooms are individual, each one named after a fishing fly and the key fobs are wooden fish. March Brown room was really clean and comfortable with individual furniture and the bathroom was clean,... More

We had a night out here, dinner bed and breakfast. Excellent service, very good food and choice with open fires to relax by. Very good kir royal and nice wine list at reasonable prices. Breakfast was well set up for a "full breakfast", could do with some pastries and nuts for the continental breakfast

Together with our friends we booked two standard rooms for one night to include dinner. The hotel is beautifully situated with river views or country views. We were the only residents that night and found our rooms rather cold as windows were left open and heating was not switched on until we arrived. This was a poor way to arrive after a four... Having moved into the area recently and having heard some excellent reviews of The Bell I went for Sunday lunch with my family today. From the outside the place looks friendly and inviting and has a superb location next to the river and bridge. Almost as soon as we stepped inside we were greeted in a very friendly and welcoming...
