I couldn’t book for 2 nights over a weekend as The Bell was nearly full, but was allowed to book a single night as the nights either side were booked. We arrived having spent the night before at a truly 1st class B+B (Mill House, Whitebrook). It would appear that The Bell is first and foremost an inn/restaurant and then... more

This was a birthday treat for my partner and a place I've wanted to visit for a while. The Bell at Skenfrith is very popular with a well-heeled customer base, so lots of Telegraph readers.. The food was good on both nights that we dined (the new Walnut Tree is near as well); breakfast was pleasant; service good. I was... more

Whilst charmingly located, the Bell charges significantly higher prices in its bar than similar places in the region. We were not impressed that the glasses had not been cleared from the tables in the garden by 4pm, either. more

This place shows what can be done by owners who really care about their guests. Our welcome was immediate and pleasant, the room (called Coachman, facing the front and looking out over the river and fields) was tasteful, spacious and had that touch of going the extra mile that marks out great from good. Fresh milk was provided for tea,... more

Having thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the restaurant last year, we resolved to find an opportunity to try the rest of this wonderful gastro-pub out and it presented itself this Easter. We booked a two-night stay in one of the newer rooms, Royal Wulff (each room is named after a fishing fly) at £170 per night bed & breakfast. The... more

My wife and I took my mother there for lunch recently, booking well in advance and avoiding both Mother's Day and Easter to ensure that it wasn't too busy. Although we were seated quickly, the service afterwards was very slow. We were hoping for "relaxed", but felt that 45 minutes between courses was unreasonable, and we had to remind the... more

We had a delightful weekend getaway at the Bell. We chose it because it was one of the few that would accept both a dog and a baby (both very cheerfully). Over the course of the weekend we had a dinner, a lunch, two breakfasts, a long walk, a short walk, and several chats with the charming owners. The wine... more

Got a special rate after a bit of dialogue with the owners, and what a great place this ............. You must stay and enjoy the restaurant as this is the hotels priceless gem. What a superb menu, and both of us here for this night are not easily impressed. Considerate staff who attentively look after the log fire, bar and... more

Recently stayed at The Bell for a birthday treat and we were very impressed. A beautiful, tranquil setting in a valley next to a picturesque river made for a lovely walk after arrival before we returned for a pint and to get warmed up by the roaring fire. Our room was immaculate, fully equipped and faultless. Despite the hotel being... more

We have stayed at The Bell 5 times and have always come away wishing that we'd booked a further night (which we have next year). This stay was the best yet as far as the evening meals were concerned. We both rated them up there with some of the best that London and Edinburgh had offered us. Breakfasts are always... more
