This was our second stay and hopefully we will visit this wonderful part of the UK again. Right on the borders it has history on the doorstep (castle) and exudes peace and quiet. It would be excellent as a base for exploring the area and the staff were both friendly and efficient. The acid test is will we be there... More

This historic small hotel has always enjoyed a great riverside location in an attractive village on the Welsh border, surrounded by beautiful countryside. We returned after some years absence. The new owners are full of ideas and seem on track to make a very good venue even better. It is a great place in which to relax. The rooms are... More

Stayed for a long weekend and found the staff, food and accommodation excellent. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. It is a very relaxing place to stay with lovely gardens to sit and enjoy. I would recommend this place to anyone who would like to enjoy a relaxing... More

I felt unwelcomed as soon as I walked into this place, I rode on my Road Bike and asked if I could have a sandwich made even though it was sunday lunch serving, they were quite abrupt and I felt I asked for the Earth but it wouldn't have taken them less than 5 mins to make a quick sandwich,... Sorry to read your review, we have no issue with road bikers, or those who choose any other form of transport. We recently welcomed a man cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats, introduced him to the locals for some social chat and put him up for the night. We are however a very busy restaurant on Sundays and were... More

We stayed a Monday night and the food and service was just as good as we'd have expected from a weekend visit. Skenfrith is one of the prettiest spots in England: clear river sparkling by, ruined castle, soft green hills. The Bell is welcoming and warm. There's an excellent wine list and the food was really good. Everything was fresh... More

We found the Hotel via Trip Advisor and we were not dissappointed. When we arrived we thought "Oh no Johannsens". We have found them very dissapointing and certainly if we had known it was one of their promotions (you cannot call them recommendations) then we would not have gone. However there is always the exception that proves the rule and... More

We only stayed for one night but had an excellent meal. The service was friendly and they were flexible and creative in accommodating my wife's allergies. The room was very comfortable with views over the garden and the bridge. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Charming staff who delivered very good service over a two day stay. Food quality was high but stocks of some wine and port were not available. Facilities are excellent; large bedrooms; delightful restaurant and lovely outdoor area for drinks. Breakfast commences at 9. 00 am which is shade late, but you can remain awake until late into the evening in... More

stayed here for one night bed breakfast and evening dinner. Room was excellent with 4 poster bed, good size and lovely freestanding bath in room. Nice garden to have a drink in. Food in evening was very good and breakfast choices also good. Recently taken on new ownership and we were warned that not possibly as good as previous before... More

Our return after several years , this time we found a less pretentious environment. We had a very pleasant meal which was well presented, we discovered that Bell was now under new management for the last 3 months and it showed ! A very friendly host welcomed us despite not being regular visitors.
