Hillcrest is the best value on St John. The units are older but have been updated and clean. The owner is very friendly. The fridge is well stocked with breakfast essentials and a wide assortment of libations at no extra charge. A short walk to downtown. We recommend Hillcrest.

We had read reviews before coming, and were pleasantly surprised by this guest house. Phyllis was very welcoming, and put us in the apartment where she grew up, and explained that other rooms had been added as money for additions became available. The space was more than we needed; a living room with table and chairs, couch, other seating and... More

Phylis is very nice and hospitable. The room is clean and bright. The kitchen is small if you intend to do much cooking. There is no stove or oven. We planned on doing much of our own cooking and found it to difficult to create dinners. Hot plates are what you will be using in a very small space. We... More

i was very unsatisfied by another very expensive hotel for the value on St John Island. And i had a good surprise with this guest house : not luxery, but confortable and fair rate compared to some other hotels on the island. Also closed to the city and a beautiful view on the bay. To be improved ; the wifi... More

Phyllis is sweet and very hospitable, and this is a great location if you don't mind the hill, but unfortunately the place is showing signs of neglect and is overpriced. We stayed in the Caribbean Ocean View Suite. The refrigerator was rusty, the furniture was missing handles and the mattress was the worst one I've ever encountered in a hotel... More

The Caribbean Ocean View Suite Mattress was updated last year with a BRAND NEW MATTRESS, so not sure what the issue was. Guest sometimes do some minor damage and I may not catch it. The cost of living on St. John determines the price of the suites. Included in the cost is the complimentary menu of bacon, eggs, muffins, international... More

This place had great hospitality and the rooms were very nice. The outside deck had an amazing view overlooking the island. It was a short downhill walk to the night life. Negative side is that it is difficult to get a taxi to pick you up here. We had to walk down the hill to find one. Great stay!

Location, location, location! Hillcrest Guest House is located in downtown Cruz Bay on a hill overlooking the bay. You can walk to restaurants and shopping but will want a taxi back up the hill. We rented a car in St. Thomas at the airport and took the car barge from RedHook to Cruz Bay. Getting to the Hillcrest is difficult... More

Phyllis is the warmest and most accommodating person we have met. She gifted my Veteran husband the use of her Sunset Room as her gratitude of our Servicemen. As a result we had the trip of a lifetime and in the most magnificent tropical setting a person can only dream about. The Sunset room was so comfortable and overlooked the... More

I wanted to be centrally located. The guest house is a very short, but very steep walk from downtown. It has all the amenities such as a full kitchen, large seating area, comfortable bedroom, good sized bathroom and even a spacious outdoor area that is all screen in. It gave you the option of being able to go downtown for... More
