Booked/checked in to this place last minute - on first impressions at the lobby it seemed ok for a 3* hotel. Then to be told the price for the night was up from the £49 to £69.00... My partner and I were too tired to bother arguing the case with the receptionist and we just took the key and followed... More

Stayed 2 nights 13th march, the road closed outside hotel, workman started work at 7 am! Visiting scots for the 6 nations made it impossible to sleep, setting off smoke alarms at 2 am! The room was tired and dated and was impossible to shower as there was no water pressure on 4th floor, manager was not bothered at all when we... More

I was advised to stay in Cardiff and travel in to Merthyr as the hotels were supposed to he poor, but I wanted an early start. Previous reviews hadn't been great but it was only for one night. What I found were polite staff, general cleanliness, a warm cosy room with a comfy bed and good pillows, a TV that... More

Hotel is very outdated in terms of decor and furniture. Squirting boards were sellotaped on in our room. Lack of sockets made drying hair difficult and unable to charge more than one phone/laptop at a time. Lighting was rather dim with only 2 wall lamps and a bedside lamp . Shower was abysmal - no water pressure at all and... More

I called this hotel, What can I say, you phone to book a stay with them and they slam the phone down on you stating I am to busy I have a Que of people waiting to book in. I dont understand if you are trying to attract customers that you would be so hostile. Awful !!

Stayed 3 nights while visiting friends and family; room was acceptable - bedding / towels all very clean, however some redecoration definitely needed; restaurant has good food and good size servings, bar has good selection of beers and drinks. Located in the town centre and surprisingly quiet.

I stayed for two nights with several colleagues as we were attending a conference held almost opposite the hotel and we had arranged the conference dinner here too. After reading many of the reviews I was quite apprehensive but although there are things which could (and should) be improved, overall I thought it wasn't too bad. It's an unattractive 1970s... More

Depending on the day you can get a room here pretty cheap and you can check in til late in the night! They do have a bar but it's pricey! The rooms are basic but pretty clean! It's a good location if your staying in Merthyr on want somewhere you can catch a bus or train to Cardiff cheaply! The bus... More

The pluses of this admittedly rather strange establishment are strong. It is very, very cheap. The breakfast, while simple, was really nice, and I mean really nice - bacon and egg are not easy to mess up but plenty hotels manage; Castle Hotel gave me a proper tasty breakfast and as much of it as I wanted. My room was... More

We stayed here for one night on a trip to the Brecon Beacons. We stayed in a 'family room' on the third floor. Obviously this hotel has been around for some time; the building isn't the most attractive. We pulled up out front as we were unsure where parking was, and entered reception. The very first thing we all noticed... More
