Thank god it was 1 night, I had a room facing the shop but I stayed on a week day and it was quite enough, the hotel has a good centre location, near pubs. Noise might be a problem here over a weekend. My room wasn't the cleanest, very grubby, cigarette butts down the sink and you could smell people... More

stayed here with my wife and my nine months old son for 1 night. like previously mentioned by other contributors the hotel is quite run down but it is what you expect for the price you pay. excellent location as it is right in the centre of town but very noisy at night from the club goers (especially you have... Not much choice in merthyr in reality. Friendly staff but hotel needs renovation. Clean enough but fixings poor, collapsing clothes rail, half of one toilet roll, no spare. Overpowered cold tap but one of the weakest showers ever. Bed passable. Breakfast ok. Stay for one night if passing through but wouldn't stay again

A tired hotel but one that gave us a pleasant stay. Room was very tired with decoration from the 70's but linen and towels were spotless, bed was comfortable and all proved to be adequate. Our evening meal was very good with good size helpings and the breakfast was hot and plentiful. Staff in general were very friendly. For the... More

We arrived on a Sunday, there was only one member of staff on duty, an eastern European chap who was doing his best to cope with cooking, check-in and bar duties along with cleaning and offering advice. The rooms are tired, cold and very noisy. To be awoken cold, at 3.00am by hammering on the walls, the whole floor got... More

First impression upon arrival was wow this looks like something off This Is England.. 1970s block of council flats. Anywhooo, after entering it didn't get much better. The room was really dated and tired, I felt like I paid far too much money for what I actually got. It looks like somewhere you would stay on a budget but the... More

The hotel at first glance is like something stuck in a 1980's time warp, it's dated but characterful, yes in need of renovation but not with sterile metal and plastic like some of the "lodge" type places, just needs new wallpaper, carpets and repainting. £120 for 2 people for 2 nights B&B in a town center is IMHO very good... This is a tired hotel. The decor is drab, the public areas not very clean, the heat was full on and oppressive in some of the corridors and bedrooms (including ours) and various promised details (such as wifi) were absent. We had trouble unlocking the door initially; the owner/manager grudgingly came to see what the matter was. He, of course... More

My Partner and I went to wales for a Concert weekend with my Choir "The Solent Male Voice Choir" who were to sing in a couple of venues in the area. We all stayed at the Castle Hotel for the weekend. We were made to feel very welcome there and allocated our rooms quickly and efficiently by the desk staff.My... More
