My experience at Villa Fairview was mixed. I met some wonderful people there but had some not so great experiences. The place is not exactly like it is represented on it's website. The owner has two places that he runs, Crystal Palace and Villa Fairview. He lives in Crystal Palace and it shows. I stayed there for a few days while waiting for my room at Villa Fairview to be ready. I guess I got spolied by the air conditioning and the niceness of CP.

When I was moved to Villa Fairview, I was a bit shocked at it's condition versus what I saw online. We were courteously welcomed and shown to our accommodations. We had booked the suite with the private balcony over looking St. Thomas harbor and it's main town Charlotte Amalia. There are exterior stairs to the second level where the suite is, but their are lovely gardens with numberous flowering plants, hibiscus, and Mango trees, an outside bar, a charming small pool and sunning deck. Another great feature is that is a short walk to the downtown area with its great(!) duty free shops - jewelry, cameras, cigars, etc. Many historical sites. And the diversity of the restaurants in short proximity was astonishing. We usually walked down the gentle uphill road and after a enjoyable dinner took a taxi back (very reasonable). We recommend this Hotel/Inn to anyone who wants to experience the historic Caribbean. I read "Don't Stop the Carnival" by Herman Wouk while I was there. I think the large party near the end was held for the Governor at Villa Fairview.
