One cannot beat Asa Wright for an introduction to tropical birding. The birds come to you - the mornings on the veranda with fresh, local, hot coffee; afternoons/evenings on the veranda with cool rum punch all the while waiting for the next lifer to fly to you. We loved the traditional food which was well prepared and served. The birding... More

We took our Tropical Rainforest and Reef Ecology course to Trinidad and Tobago during the May 2014 short semester. The Asa Wright Nature Center and Lodge was top notch, the naturalists were always willing to help ID some cool birds or explore the grounds, and the staff provided amazing meals. We even ventured off to Mantura Bay to see Leatherback... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay at the Asa Wright Nature Centre in Trinidad. We were up at 6 every morning to view the birds from the birders' veranda. Humming birds, Bananaquits and Tanagers in touching distance! The nature guides were all very helpful and the accommodation was clean and spacious but not fitted out to 5-star standards -... More

I just returned from Trinidad, spent 4 nights at Asa. Here are my contributions that have not been noted in previous reviews: BIRDS: This is a must-do trip for bird enthusiasts, our total count for Trinidad and Tobago was over 150 unique birds, topping our Costa Rica trip by 30. FOOD: Better than expected but be aware that they leave... More

We spent 3 nights at asa Wright. we went for the birds and that was what we got, lots of fabulous birds. The staff are all knowledgeable and the view from the veranda overlooking the forest is fabulous with always the chance of seeing something unusual. Most of the time one of the guides was about and suddenly you can... More

The complex is made up of a main building and bedrooms scattered in the tropical forest and is the place to stay for bird lovers. The large verandah overlooks the lower tropical forest and through binoculars we viewed parrots, bell birds, hawks, toucans, trogons, and dozens of other species. During the day there are staff available to assist in identification with... More

We stayed 9-12 Jan as part of a 3-week tour around T&T, and simply wanted a place in the Northern Range. So we felt rather humble with our pocket camera and binos beside enthusiasts with lenses as long as your arm. That said, it was great fun, and even amateurs can enjoy the view of the numerous birds using the... More

What can you say but this is paradise, the bird watching is really easy from the terrace and if your stuck on a particular species there's always someone there to help you out. The accommodation is slightly dated but given it's fantastic position isn't a problem. The food everything is grown on the reserves plantation even the tea and coffee.... More

This property is located in the middle of the rain forest. It is the most fabulous place for photography and getting as close to Humming birds and other birds as one can possibly get. All meals are buffet style and the egg station at breakfast is super. The rooms are clean but basic, but most of your time would be... More

The view from the verandah is spectacular--all manner of hummingbirds and other feeder friendly birds. We also saw agouti and wonderful lizards. The trails are decently maintained although they are extremely slick with any rain. The hand railings need to be repaired in some places and added in others. I would strongly recommend a walking stick--they have some bamboo ones... More
