We stayed here for three nights prior to a sailing trip and one night after. The staff was helpful and friendly both in the hotel and in the restaurant and bar area. The rooms were clean and comfortable (we were in the older part of the hotel). The location is excellent, loved sitting in the outdoor patio watching people come... More

I visited St. Maarten with 8 months old baby and my husband in Feb. 2014. I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The front desk staff, cleaning lady, owner, bartender, kitchen staff, servers and every other staff were amazing. Great people. You feel safe. They watch out for you. This hotel is in a great location, right at board... More

This was our third visit to St. Maarten and our second stay at the Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse. The rooms are comfortable, the location is great and the staff is simply first class. The restaurant & beach bar are also excellent. We will stay here again!

We stayed in the old part of the hotel which I found to be very comfortable and well appointed. The staff was great. Lunch at the hotel restaurant was delicious and our waitress was very attentive. I would recommend this hotel to anyone but just one tip: it takes a long time for the water to warm up so don't... More

We returned to Pasanggrahan for the second time. We stayed here at the end our of sailing adventure; enjoyed being back on land, taking a real shower, sleeping on a comfy mattress, and being treated to excellent service. The location provides for last minute souvenir shopping, excellent restaurants (includingthe hotel restaurant/bar), and donating at the nearby casino. Highly recommend the... More

This hotel reopened three weeks ago, and our sailing group spend a night here after turning our sailboat back in before heading home. My room was very nice, with a big verandah overlooking the harbor. We had lunch outside in the hotel courtyard - a wonderful lunch. Great mudslides and cold beer! The staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

I agree with all of the other reviewers - stay in the new section! We had a wonderful suite #303 for 2 nights in January. The bathroom was huge - walk in shower, deep bath, twin sinks, separate toilet area, large vanity table. Small kitchenette with micro, sink and a wine cooler (no refrigerator). Also had a coffee maker but no... More

I've stayed at the Pasanggrahan twice, once in July 2012 and again in December 2013. Both times, I was very impressed with the location, staff friendliness, and the rooms. I stayed in the newly-renovated rooms both times, and they're huge! It's an incredible amount of space, but my favorite part was the view. It was wonderful to wake up every... More

My husband and I stayed for two nights (Dec. 12-13, 2013) on the first floor of the newer building before the start of our Windstar cruise. We really enjoyed it! The hotel remodeling was only just beginning and didn't interfere with our stay. Very new with modern amenities. Lots of space, great bathroom with separate shower, deep soaking tub, large... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
