Mary and I spent our honeymoon in St. Barth at the beginning of the month and stayed at the Carl Gustaf for a week. Some friend had recommanded us the hotel for our honeymoon.....we thought that it would be a convenient location, in the center of Gustavia close to the stores, restaurants and clubs. Well they were right....We had a... more
The Carl Gustaf Hotel is a lovely small hotel perched on a hill overlooking the city. From the minute we stepped onto their grounds we were treated extremely warmly and professionally. Pierre, the general manager, and his staff are first class!!!! They consistantly went out of their way to accomodate our needs. Our room was very tastefully decorated and furnished,... more
I have to say I read alot of the reviews on this site and at times question the bad ones as someone who has little travel experience. I guess now I will have more respect. I just recently returned from a extended Caribbean trip which included a stay at the Carl Gustaf Hotel in St. Barts. I was sold to... more
My husband and I stayed in St. Barts for a week in April and split our time between Carl Gustaf and Eden Rock. Both hotels are beautiful, however we found Eden Rock to be a bit more beautiful than Carl Gustaf. The biggest difference between the two was the level of service. Eden Rock had terrific service but Carl Gustaf's... more
The Carl Gustaf is comprised of around 17 lovely villas, there are a lot of stairs to climb though and not for those not fit. The property is on a cliffside. Each has at least a bedroom and a livingroom, plus an exquisitely appointed small kitchen and a gorgeous marble clad bath ensuite. The decor is tasteful and very luxurious.... more
Kara and I checked into Room #21 of the Carl Gustaf on Saturday February 3, 2007. That same evening, there was an Electrical Fire in our room. We immediately unplugged the electrical converter provided by the Carl Gustaf, but toxic fumes (burning plastic, metal, wire, etc..) and smoke continued to fill the room. We called the reception desk and alerted... more
This place is beautiful. Great breakfast each morning delivered to our room with wonderful pastries, fresh juices, and coffee. Friendly service. Clean, spacious rooms. We loved the plunge pool. It was the perfect temperature everytime we used it and it was also spotless. The hotel is within walking distance to all the great shopping and dining in Gustavia. Turn down... more
My wife and I arrive to St. Barts after a long trip. The Carl Gustaf shoufer was in the airport to receive us. He as well as the rest of the staff was very profesional and corteous. At the hotel arrival they receive us with a class of Champain. I have never check-in in a hotel while drinking Champain. The... more
My wife and I spent our honeymoon here after getting married in St. Martin. We also looked at Eden Rock, Le Toiny, and Isle de France but decided on "The Goose" based on recommendations from a friend. To say the least, we weren't disappointed. The views over Gustavia were spectacular and our room and patio were immense, immaculate--and very private.... more
