I just returned from a girls trip to Vieques and the Hix house was just perfect. I loved the open spaces, cool breezes, beautiful views, fresh eggs, bread and fruit for breakfast, and of course yoga with Jen. The rooms are open air, so there are bugs and you will be awaken by birds every morning, but that is part... More

Hix island House is a wonderful place to stay in Vieques. It is quiet but only slightly off the beaten path. The architecture and room design is minimalist. They call it "wabi-sabi" after the Japanese tea ceremony. The rooms are almost completely exposed to the elements with huge windows front and back to permit breezes from the trade winds to... More

My husband and I wanted a relaxing, calm, and different getaway, and I knew as soon as we drove up to the Hix Island House that we'd picked the right place. Serene, undisturbed, do your own thing. Good coffee and fresh bread in the morning, in your room. Have your breakfast and watch the horses and birds and tropical foliage.... More

We stayed at Hix for 2 days in mid February and wish we had stayed longer. There is something very calming about the rooms (units?) themselves that we loved. The grounds are beautiful and the pool is great. Hix is like a luxury hotel without the pretense, crowds, and prices of suites. Unless you are staying at the W (which... More

We spent 6 days on Vieques, and stayed at Hix House in the lower level Adobe apartment. It is slightly inland and up in the hills, a beautiful breeze was everpresent day and night. The modern concrete architecture has open, unscreened windows facing the trade winds, which keeps the apartments cool with flowing air and ceiling fans. Each unit has... More

This place is amazing! Stayed for a yoga retreat for 7 days in casa Solaris and was lucky enough to be assigned to the top floor. Unbelievable views and the sounds of the horse, birds and roosters and frogs is unreal. I think my favorite part was the outdoor shower. Something about the breeze on bare skin with the sun... More

We just returned from HIx Island House and we would definitely go back again. When we booked the trip we were a bit concerned with the "no AC" but shouldn't have been. The way the villa is situated it captures the perfect breeze both day and night. It was wonderfully refreshing. The space is so livable and comfortable and the... More

It Is difficult to to tell if you are inside or outside at the Hix Island House. The architecture makes the boundaries are rather fuzzy. The wind keeps the rooms cool with a/c. The patios, decks and roofs are truly private. We have been here twice and have found the staff to be of the highest quality. Food for breakfast... More

Simply put: Nix Island House is one of my favorite built spaces. I've been to grander hotels but Nix I House's combination of architecture, location, nature and ambiance can't be beat. The architect (he lives in a house up the hill) combined elements of native architecture (that can withstand hurricanes), Japanese wash-sabi, Caribbean pallet, and thoughtful design to create rooms... We heard it was "architecturally" a gem. Fully open windows. All cement. Solar powered. What we found was "wow". You won't quite believe how better you can live, more simply, with the breezes flowing and the simplicity/elegance/ingenuity in design. Very stylish, quite out of Architectural Digest. Everything you need for breakfast. Outdoor shower. View of the woods. Exotic animal sounds.... More
