Nicer than a hostel but without the amenities of a hotel, this guesthouse is good for the budget conscious traveler that is looking for a decent place to sleep after a long day of exploring Old San Juan and enjoying the restaurants and cantinas in the area. The guesthouse is in a great location. There is a key for the... more
We found Casa Candela on Craig's List. The owner, Pablo, responded quickly to e-mail. If you understand what you are getting, you won't be disappointed. Our family stayed in the one-room "suite" on the third floor, which gave us a bathroom in the suite and a balcony with a great view of Old San Juan. From the roof you have... more
Casa Candela quickly became my favorite spot to stay in PR. It is situated in one of the most ideal locations in Old San Juan, on scenic San Sebastian street. Bed and Breakfast style it has all the old charm of Spain with the vibrant and artsy flare of Old San Juan. One of my favorite features of Casa Candela... more
I don't even remember how I found this hotel. Probably on lonelyplanet and then worked my way over to this site. I stayed at Casa Candela for 4 nights and while the first night there was good, it went downhill from there. There are NO signs whatsoever to indicate the name of the guesthouse so the taxi driver had to... more
Here's the breakdown Pros- It's cheap and in an excellent location. You could just walk outside your room to experience the nightlife of OSJ. It is surrounded by good food and friendly people. The rooms were comfortable and had AC. Pablo was very nice and the artwork was very cool. The terrace was awesome! Go to the bodega across the... more
I decided to take a departure from the usual stay at an established hotel and gave Casa Candela a try. And I'm very happy I did. I really enjoyed the place. There was no TV but the room was clean and the A/C worked well. I would rate this place above some of the hotels you will find in Condado... more
It should maybe be clarified that this is a private guest house on a street filled with nightlife, run by guys that run bars as well. It means there are a few caveats; it may be easier to check in at 2AM than 11AM. And the rooms are airy and look clean but the floors and bathrooms were not clean... more
My husband and I spent a total of 4 nights in the "suite" on the third floor. The location was PERFECT! You can't beat the price in OSJ, and the view from our balcony was amazing. Pablo is a wonderful host- he met us and gave us directions coming in from the airport and also recommended the restaurant where we... more
I was lucky enough to come across Casa Candela on Craigslist. I have stayed in a variety of hotels and hostels... but Casa Candela was the closest thing I've found to feeling right at home. The rooms are definitely a steal and are reminiscent of rooms at places like The Standard Downtown Los Angeles. There is lots of art throughout... more
