This small inn took me for a wonderful surprise. My initial impression of the 'too small' room was quickly dispelled by the friendly staff, attentive service, great location, and overall ambiance. This little gem has been here for many years, tucked in among the glitzy mega-hotels. While it lacks the amenities of a large hotel, I did not miss them.... More

Used this hotel the night before a cruise out of San Juan and didn't want to pay "resort" prices for an 18 hour stay. The place is old and kind of run down. Wifi works well, which is the best thing you can say about it. Small, cramped rooms and the "breakfast" is a few rolls, cereal, and a pot... More

The receptionist was AMAZING my friend and I didn't have a clue what to do when we were to arrive in Puerto Rico. The receptionist helped up out with EVERYTHING her name was Aida and she booked everything for us. Seriously one of the nicest most caring people I've meet while staying at the Canario boutique My best-friend and I... More

Stayed 1 night after a cruise. It is located in a safe area, although I don't know why there seemed to be 2-3 police hanging out quite often. The room was adequate and clean, but nothing special. The courtyard outside was a convenient place to sit at a table and have a cocktail before heading out to dinner. The location... More

We stayed here because we had a 16 hour layover on our way to Dominica. The hotel is so cute and charming from the outside, and in the lobby area. Dark woods, brightly colored tiles. The rooms are totally no frills. Small, window with view of a building, no alarm clock, just enough room to walk around the bed. A/C... More

This was a quaint boutique that was affordable, yet the rooms were clean and comfortable. I don't think you can call out on the phones in the room, but you can receive calls. The staff is helpful and there is a light continental breakfast. A cab ride was necessary to get too Old San Juan and the markets, so this... More

Its a clean, but spartan place. The receptionists were very nice to me & helpful. As also mentioned, its in the college vacation area by the Marriott, hence I felt very safe but "the charm of Puerto Rico" is kind of gone. There's no parking but there's a nightly place for $10 to leave a car. Again, the room was... More

Given the price in comparison to other properties in the area, El Canario turned out to be a decent deal. It is one of the cheaper places to stay in Condado and the property is fairly charming. It is located near the beach and on a main road near shops and restaurants. The room is pretty standard and is definitely... More

Once inside you feel like you have entered another world. Old Europe. Cozy, friendly, intimate. Definitely will stay again. Negatives... TV reception. 2 religious channels. That was it. I didn't bother to complain. It was good to go without TV for a week. Ceiling fan was full of dust!

My friend and I were looking for an affordable, safe way to stay in San Juan for a week, so we stayed at El Canario based on a recommendation from her family friend. So glad we did! The room was exactly what we were looking for (clean, cute, and inexpensive), and the patio area turned out to be a great... More
