To compare the three story Hotel Duque de Wellington to other hotels in the 'Malecon' (eg: Jiragua, Hilton, International) would be a disservice, as it is in a class by itself -- 'apart-hotel' would be more appropriate. Located on the bustling backside of 'Hotel Row' on one of the city's busiest thoroughfares, you will see everything: this is not the... More

Stayed 4 nights in this hotel and wished I was more centrally located. The italian restaurant next door was excellent, but hardly any clients. The server was GREAT and the food good. The room (I took a single suit #308) was fine - but the walls are thin and there was a rather noisy neighbour. The bed fine - the... More

This is a nice modest privately owned hotel in the Gascue section of Santo Domingo. If someone is wanting the best of service and top of the line amenities, this place is not the right selection. I wanted a decent, clean hotel at a reasonable price within walking distance of the Conde, and thus this was a good choice. I... More

My colleague and I spent four days in El Duque and we had no problems. The hotel location could not be better, everything is close!. The only thing ugly was in front of the hotel at night, a swarm of prostitutes were going up us, offering their services. Also outside and at night, many hustlers asking for money. More

Been here 3 times. Not a 5 stars hotel, but a perfect hotel for a weekend out of NYC. Location is great, visitors policy is priceless. Walking distance to the Conde, groceries next door, couple of restaurants close by etc. The malecon is two blocks away where you can find all the big hotels. Not a family hotel, adults only... More

I am a travel agent and spent a week at this hotel. For someone to suggest the lobby is a brothel would be hilarious, if it weren’t so detrimental to the reputation of a reasonably priced hostal in a great location with hardworking staff. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is how tiny the lobby is --... More

Ok, just got back from this spot and will NEVER stay there again. I found the service 50/50. Sometimes you got a real cool concierge, othertimes they were really 'bothered' by your presence. The security overnight harassed visitors for tips and threatened them. I had roaches as well. I paid $65 a night, and was charged for my guests which... More

Not a terrible place, but there are definitely better options in Santo Domingo for a similar price. The first room that I was given had a strong (strong) mildew/mold smell and one tiny window. The second room didn't smell, but the peeling wallpaper and rundown furnishings made it less-than-cheerful. The front desk staff were civil but definitely not friendly or... More
