Overall our stay was pleasant. Something that people should be aware of is that even though we booked our stay months in advance and checked in by 4 in the afternoon, the rooms are first come first serve. We thought that we would stay in a room with a queen size bed. When we checked in though, those rooms were... more

It is a wonderful hotel localted in the city centre. It is a colonial house restored to be a hotel and it has a special atmosphere. The rooms are a little small although they have everything and so is the bathroom. We had a room with a shower and would have preferred a tub. But the colonial style is so... more

This Hotel is really nice and charming. Sofitel has tried to make a Spanish colonial hotel and they have succeeded. the overall Hotel has a special atmosphere, and you feel more in a vacation hotel than a business hotel. The rooms are the same, well decorated, the bathroom is a bit small. They have the very good sofitel extra mattress... more

We stayed in Santo Domingo for 3 nights this month. The hotel is in a great location and is absolutely beautiful. The breakfast, included, was great and the drinks by the pool were good as well. We did not eat any other meals there. I doubt I would go back to Santo Domingo, but if I did I would certainly... more

Very pleased with the settings - Old colonial mansion renovated with modern amenities. Rooms are spacious, 3 patios, small garden and good food (with live music). Staff very helpful + they speak French ! However a bit expensive. On the other hand one pays for the settings! Worth it. more

We began our 2 week trip to the dominican republic with 4 nights at the Hotel Nicholas de Orvando. It was our second stay at this great hotel which drips with 500 years of history. Although it is a bit over our budget it is worth every peso. The pool which overlooks the Ozama River is great and the service... more

Agree with other reviewers, when they say SDQ is not a tourist destination. We go there once in a while, for business. However, the quality of service at the Nicolas de Ovando is above average, even considering it is an Accor / Sofitel. I have their "A Card" fidelity card and reserved directly at Accor's website. Pros of the hotel,... more

Great little oasis in the city. If your looking for the best place to stay, then you cannot go wrong with Sofitel. Great service, nice big rooms and a really varied breakfast spread. more

My husband and I stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon. We spent 3 nights and really enjoyed ourselves. I will say though that 3 days is probably one too many for sightseeing in Santo Domingo. I think 2 days is plenty. The location of the hotel is great! In the Colonial Section part of town the hotel... more

This is hotel discriminte against black people. I stayed there with a white friend of mine and everytime i had to enter the hotel they made me show my room key. Never once they ask my friend for his own and i was the one who paid for the hotel. They refuse to let me into the hotel if i... more
