If there's a hotel in Cuba that should be closed-down, undoubtedly, this one would qualify. The reception and the entire atmosphere of the place were inanimate, the room was filthy, the toilet bowl had no seat cover (and when we told the receptionist about it, she just replied "it's normal"), there were molds in the shower/toilet room and the furnishings... Nasty and dark hotel with nice beach front location. Nice people working there, terrible rooms. No one should sell this hotel is really incredible that some tour agencies promote and sell this nightmare. Very dissapointed, excuses like this hotel will be demolish soon. Staff very nice.

We stayed at Los Delfines, just down the street and I walked in to view this hotel. It appeared to be clean and the staff were accommodating. I would not be able to stay at this hotel, as there are no ground floor rooms and I cannot do stairs. It did not impress me as much as Los Delfines but... More

We fell for the positive spin put on this place by the Oct 2013 Lonely Planet. Yes, it is faded. But more than that, it is a dump. The sheets were wet on the bed, the room had a bad smell. Garbage on the steps to the beach. Light bulbs not working and refusal to fix. Mildewy smell. Trash and... More

We book the Herradura at the last minute because of a schedule change and had to pre-pay for our 4 nights. If I hadn't prepaid I would have checked out and found a casa particulare nearby. The casas in Cuba are so much better than this hotel. The outside of the building is rotting awa. Some of the balconies have... More

The location is amazing, especially compared to those huge all inclusive hotels. This hotel is in the center of Varadero, but right on the beach. Many restaurants, cafés, shops near. Also the bus station is very close in case you would like to travel to Matanzas or Havana. Service at the hotel is friendly, cleaning ladies are really nice and... More

For active travellers I would recommend Herradura. It's right on the beach and everything is withing walking distance, unlike those who stay at more expensive hotels and have to take taxi or rent a scooter/car to get around. Breakfast is not good, white toasts, pancakes are horrible and fruits were always finished as was coffeet too. I didn't eat lunch... More

There is nothing good I can say about this hotel experience. Filthy rooms, ungrounded lightswitch (I got a strong shock), flooding toilets (before we used it), lights that never worked, bugs, horrible beds (sheets were clean). Hookers and Johns by the handful (yuk!). The hotel should have been condemned years ago. The porches are falling apart. The walls have huge... More

Stayed one night in Hotel Herradura(January 2014). Waited in the lobby for over an hour, finally I asked if our room was ready. They send us someone to show our room. Washroom was horriblem toilet not clean. Shower curtain, and sink rusty, and dirty looking. Mold on ceilings. Small bugs on floor. We were happy that we only stayed one... More

Beach is great, hotel is clean and breakfast good. I spent the month from Havana to Varadero to Santa Clara to Camuguey to Santiago de Cuba to Holguin. Anyone taking this on I would recommend against train or bus from Santa Clara - just too many hours. Short flight would be better. Herradura was great stop off from Havana and... More
