As the heading suggests, the location of this hotel is perfect - right in the heart of Habana Vieja (where most sights are located). The hotel is not super-luxurious, but is clean and makes use of a wonderful old building, full of character. Our bedroom (for the little amount of time we spent in it) was huge, with shutters overlooking... more

We picked the Valencia because it was significantly cheaper than any of the other places in Old Havana and because of the good reviews on this site. When we arrived, they were having plumbing issues, so we were moved to the Ambos Mundos for the first 3 nights. We enjoyed it a lot and were a little disheartened to be... more

You just cannot beat the location! It is located in Habana Vieja, with walking distance to all the major sights in that part of the city as well as Malecon and Centro Habana. This is so convenient as it means you don't have to worry about transportation all that much. The room was huge, with comfortable beds and nice and... more

Stayed three nights (- Room VII was charming -) in May. The cool courtyard with hanging vines is the perfect place to enjoy a beer after sightseeing. This hotel would be best described as quirky rather than luxurious but is most definitely the better for it. more

The layout was interesting and the rooms, although a little quirky in their layout were clean and spacious. Close to the centre of the old town this location is excellent. The continental breakfast was excellent too. Live music there most evenings. more

We ended up in Commendador rather than Valencia as it appears a lot of people do. However, I had purposefully checked with my specialist travel agent before I went if this was ok. He said that the Commendador is more expensive that Valencia and there is really nothing to worry about if you end up in one rather than the... more

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of October 2008, and thought the hotel was charming. It is an old colonial building, and has been restored and decorated so as to really capture that character. I think we were lucky - unlike other reviewers, no-one tried to bump us into another hotel! Our room was Jijona, on the... more

The only reason I gave Hostal Valencia a 4 and not a five is because I understand that not everyone has the tolerance that I do. Yes, you do have to "fight" for a room in Valencia because most chances are they will throw you in Commendador, and most chances are the food won't be as good as at home,... more

Located in Habana vieja, very central, the building is very beautiful, with 3 patios and a colonial atmosphere. Unfortunately, the comfort was also the one you would have had in colonial times: our suite was enormous, with a 4 meter high ceiling, there were no rugs anywhere to be seen, not even for coming out of the shower. To watch... more

As I read most of the reviews for Valencia, it seems no one mentioned the toilet problems that the hotel rooms have. Basically the toilets are not private, you have a saloon type half door which is right in the middle of your room. If you are looking for privacy to do your toilet activities...this is not the hotel for... more
