The Hotel Riviera made me think of Richard Feynman's famous “cargo cult science”. In this essay, Feynman describes how certain cultures saw technologically advanced visitors as supernatural beings who would bring them precious cargo. In an effort to make them return, the natives would try to copy the observed behaviour of the visitors, building copies of objects and simulating airport... More

Stayed at the Riviera for three nights as part of a group tour. The room was OK but smelly (humidity? mold?). Overall the room was functional and I guess that for Cuba standards it was decent. The best part was the incredible view of the Malecon, from the room you can open a window and just stare into the horizon.... More

I would stay here again. I liked the hotel- right across the street from the Malecon. The neighborhood is in a more quiet residential neighborhood. It's a short taxi ride to the center of Old Havana and other districts. My room was spacious and had a great view. I enjoyed the pool- it had a lot of chlorine to kill... More

I stayed in this hotel 4 days. It was ok, not excelent but not terrible either. You'll get what you pay for. It's no really by the old part of the city, but it's not that far. You can take a tour bus in the entry. The pool wasn't clean, but the rooms are clean. The people is nice, the... More

Before 1959 Riviera was a legend - Frank Sinatra asisted the Grand opening of the hotel. Now I found it still charming and good value for the money. Take room on the 19 floor, the best are with the terrace. The pool is quite nice.

Recently stayed as part of a group. At first, the lobby makes for a decent impression, as do the restaurants on the main floor. You get to your room, and if you're fortunate to have a high floor and great view, you're still felling good. And then reality sets in: Lobby is smokey, lounge chairs are stained with grime and... The rooms are clean but the carpet and furniture are old and smell mildewed. When the a/c was on I had strong allergic reactions to something in the room- probably mildew.. During our stay I found 2 cockroaches in the bathroom- in an 4-star hotel.. 1 of 3 elevator was out of order the 5 days we were there, a... More

On returning to my room before the last night stay at the Habana, I checked the contents of my locked Safe and to my dismay discovered that I had had two £20 notes (sterling) stolen. This I am 100% certain. I immediately went to the room of a friend on the same floor and without giving him a reason, asked... More
