There is no doubt that the Hotel Nacional reeks of past glamour and intriguing history. Celebrities still visit, so there must be some fancy rooms. However, for those of us on group tours, the rooms are "interesting" and the service spotty. The good news -- we always had hot water and the toilet always with perseverance flushed. The quirks --... This large hotel has a lot of history behind it and is well worth a visit. OK the furnishings are tired and need updating but it is a fascinating place. Even the Turkish President stayed there during our stay! Buffet leaves a lot to be desired - it's bedlam as there are so many people vying to find a table... More

During our 5 day stay, the president of Turkey, (with large entourage) and Conan O'Brien graced this fairly well maintained huge old hotel. Despite tired furnishing, rugs and elevators, and staff that are government employees, Hotel Nacional has real charm. Don't miss the historic bar with memorabilia and photos of more than 8 decades of the rich and famous, (and... More

We stayed here 2 nights to enjoy the historical atmosphere and some luxury but to be honest its no luxury about this place. Most of the staff were stressed and unpolite. The breakfast buffe was extremely busy at all times and a massive mess of noisy chartertourists. The swimmingpoolarea was nothing special. You had to pay extra to use their... More

Having stayed here as a boy, I was surprised at how both the public areas and the rooms have been restored and maintained. A duplicate of The Breakers in Palm Beach it is striking how reinvestment in Cuban properties could reignite the Cuban economy.Sadly this is one of the few older structures in Havana that have transitioned well into the... A hotel of great contrasts. Vast hotel, self rated as 5 star. Very imposing 1930 building with all the original features and lovely extensive grounds with well kept gardens overlooking the sea, including sunken guns. Lovely pool area. Atmospheric bars. Real 1930s feel. Original lifts. But ... food indifferent (at best), breakfast is a free for all rush, rooms faded,... More

We stayed here for one night on a visit to Havana. The architecture of the hotel is impressive, and guests can see the grand past this place once enjoyed. The gardens and outdoor patio and bar space are lovely, and the location right on the waterfront is a plus. There is a helpful concierge service in the lobby that can... More

4 Day stay, very dated but you could still feel a bit of that 1930's elegance great to sit on the terrace and sip a daiquiri listening to the wandering band of musicians, didn't eat in the hotel much but went into town to sample a taste of old Havana.Rooms showing signs of age but when you see the photo's... We Americans are used to our comforts, and this hotel delivers as well as it can. There was a period of time where we had no hot water, but no snags other than that. While we were there the president of Turkey was also in residence. The hotel offers a large buffet breakfast with something to please everyone, and the... More

Spent a night here after a late-evening arrival from Madrid. Well, of course it's very (very) dated, but goodness, the sense of history just seeps out of every pore. Room was dated too, and a tad musty, but still, that sense of history again. I mean if you are used to a modern, up to date North American style hotel... More
