We stayed at the Breakers when it was the Mermaid Beach Club in 1996. The other reviewer mentions that the rooms were worn out and I have to say that they were worn out back in 1996, so if they haven't done any major renovations since then, I can only imagine how they look now. We rented a one bedroom room with a kitchen but we had to store all food in the refrigerator because we didn't trust the cabinets (mice). Instead of carpet, there was uncomfortable tile throughout the room and vinyl sofas. The view was georgeous but I have to agree, if you are on budget and you don't want luxury then this is your spot. We were in a pretty good location and rented motor scooters to tour the island. That was pretty scary especially since the locals with cars ride on your butt. They are not especially nice about it and seem to be impatient. There was virtually no nightlife. But the beaches were unbelievable and the water was crystal blue!!!
