Good place for couples. No kids. You will not believe how good the snorkeling in front of the hotel is... Amazing. Service at times was a little slow but good.food at restaurant is great and fantastic cocktails.

First time in Rarotonga for my fiance and I, and we had a great time staying at the Sanctuary Rarotonga. We had been told in advance by friends that everything operates on "Island time" over there, so don't go in expecting the sort of service you'd expect in NZ. So with this in mind, we didn't have high expectations and... More

The resort boasts privacy and quiet. In reality the hotel is boring and the pool area small and not well catered for recliners and a serious lack of bar service. The food is average and expensive for what you receive. Beach access isn't great and the is little place to eat outside... instead you are in a dark drafty restaurant.... More

Whilst the Sanctuary is advertised as a seperate property it is actually part of the Rarotongan Hotel and I understand are also owned by the same company that operates the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort. My wife and I have recently stayed at both I make the same comments about the Sanctuary as I did of Aitutaki Lagoon Resort. The properties are... More

Food appalling, service non existent, room dark and gloomy and un-inviting. Staff (mainly) surly and unfriendly. Management don't care. DAY 1. Paid $40.00 PP for an "Island BBQ" buffet. Food choices minimal, and cold.Steak inedible.Sausages black on outside and raw in middle. Food ran out before all patrons got to the "buffet". No dessert served until requested. Ran out of plates,... This is the adults-only part of the Raratongan hotel next door. So peaceful if you want to relax and unwind. Comfortable rooms on the beachfront with balconies to take in the view of the lagoon. Loved the restaurant with the sand floor and the food quality was superb. You have to wait a little while for your order but who... More

Stayed 3 nights at Sanctuary July 2015. Very disappointing considering high rating (4.5 star in travel brochure) and most of Trip Advisor reviews. One is left to wonder whether reviewers have a vested interest or have never experienced quality resorts particularly in Asia for similar cost. Resort is dated with limited facilities. Beachfront unit small with one main bedroom with... More

Our bedroom was small with a low ceiling but it opened directly onto sand. The pool is small but it has a nice seating area. It was nice to sit around a pool with no children screaming and shouting. But in my opinion you get better room and facilities in Fiji, for a cheaper price. We had a dripping air-conditioning... More

Have stayed 3 times at the Sanctuary over the past 4 years. Just booked again for March 2016. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday on a beautiful South Seas Island, stay at the Sanctuary. Excellent location. Friendly Staff. Private beach. Great snorkelling. Stunning sunsets. Why wouldn't you come back.

This resort oozes relaxation, friendly staff always willing to help and share a laugh. The view from my room was spectacular, overlooking the white sand beach across the lagoon to the white water crashing on the reef. Great to doze off with the balcony doors open listening to the sound of the sea at night. The Sea water was nice and... More
