This was advertised a 'new' resort so I was expecting a new place, but our room was tired (especially the bathroom) and dark and the fridge was noisy and floor sandy underfoot. And even though it was beach front we didn't have a view of the sea, but of a fence! So I was quite disappointed. However on our return... More

We stayed at the Sanctuary with another couple (one unit each) for 7 nights in August 2014. We had an upstairs beachfront unit, with a view to die for. Our unit was very clean, had a huge bed and a balcony out the front with table & two chairs on it. Our room was serviced every day with clean towels,... More

We stayed at Sanctuary Rarotonga in April. The waters here are just incredible and warm fantastic snorkelling. The staff at this resort were very helpful. The food was hit and miss, some fantastic meals some average, if you would like a hot breakfast you pay extra, food and alcohol is not cheap in Rarotonga. We dined out at lots of... More

The staff at the resort are congenial and helpful, this includes the cleaners, restaurant staff and the cheerful staff at reception. The resort caters for adults, providing a child free environment on the beach. The main resort caters for families and provides additional opportunities for restaurants and entertainment. The local customs are nurtured with three nights weekly performances of cultural... More

Nobody can deny that the location is great – and if you pay top dollar you will have a good view of the beach, the lagoon and the reef beyond. But it ends there. The Sanctuary has the feel of a resort that has fallen on hard times and, with the present lack of stewardship or management, deserves to fall... More

The cocktail bar service was one the worst experience in our years of travel around the world. No knowledge of drinks and sullen service. We heard from a guest that the waiter service in the restaurant was abysmal and took approaches to the desk to get the attention of staff.

We could have stayed forever........ Unfortunately, we only had one night here while Air NZ sorted out a problem with our aircraft The staff couldn't have been more helpful under difficult circumstances. The room we were allocated was large, and had a view over the beach. We had dinner in the more casual of their 3 restaurants; the food was... More

The reason we booked this resort was adults only (keep that in mind) 4 nights during our stay the restaurant was closed which meant we had to eat in the Rarotongan next door ...with all the children! Just what we did not want, when I asked why it was closed they claimed it was the weather! it was much more... More

We were very disappointed! The Service is nothing short of poor. You can sit at a table for up to 15 minutes before your waited on. Several times, we just got up and left. Dinners were far better at other locations (Alberto's and Hidden Valley Were great). We went to the Island Night and did not see a pig in... More

What a rip off this place is. If you want unfriendly staff, bad service, horrible food then go. The only plus is the magnificent snorkelling & location. It is way overpriced for what you receive. Breakfast is so bad I don't know why they bother, I asked if there was a banana & they said no, so we picked one... More
